3-308-1138-Associate Vice President for Community Health Job at University of Maryland, Baltimore
(3-309-1138) The University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) and University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) are recruiting a full-time faculty member to serve as Associate Vice President for Community Health to lead the implementation and ongoing operational performance of UMB’s community health efforts.
The AVP of Community Health reports administratively to the VP of Medical Affairs (who in turn, reports to the President of UMB). Although this position will sit in the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) from an administrative and management perspective, it is explicit that the position has university-wide responsibilities. The position also has a dotted line reporting relationship to the UMMC CEO. Furthermore, the AVP for Community Health will be accountable to a Steering Committee that includes, as co-chairs, the Chair of UMSOM's Department of Family Medicine and Community Medicine and the senior leader of UMMC Midtown, and also each of the UMB Deans with clinical programs.
This position will form an institutional partnership across UMB and the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) to develop a comprehensive network of programs to better serve their communities. The successful candidate will focus on harnessing UMB’s many strengths, in partnership with Federally Qualified Health Centers, to build community medicine capacity and service lines. The AVP for Community Health will develop future directions in Value Based Care Models and Population Health Programs, leveraging UMB’s unique access to scientific and clinical data and developing billing models for each of UMB’s seven schools as applicable. The position will also develop new, and support existing, innovative models of care that leverage federal and state workforce development opportunities, such as teaching health centers, community health centers and nurse led clinics. This position will also work collaboratively across UMB to enhance training that better serves UMB’s community, to include faculty development and graduate and residency training. Additionally, the position may undertake other projects or initiatives that fall under the responsibilities of the role of the UMB Vice President of Medical Affairs/Dean of the School of Medicine.
Expected faculty rank for this position is Assistant Professor or higher, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. We are proud to offer a competitive salary, medical/dental benefits, disability plans, retirement plans, and more! UMB was ranked 13th in ‘Forbes’ 2021 America’s Best Large Employers Survey.
The ideal candidate will have experience practicing in a primary care specialty, post graduate specialty training, and understand the specific components needed to care for individuals in challenging environments, as well as the science essential to improve health in underrepresented communities. Experience in community/population health is required, as well as experience outside the direct patient care environment in progressive executive leadership for organizations aimed to improve population health. A history of building diverse interprofessional models of care is ideal, but a history of interprofessional collaboration is essential. Outstanding relationship building and leadership effectiveness in a highly matrixed organization is required, as evidenced by being a highly skilled communicator and consensus builder, a trusted partner, as is a willingness to tackle complex situations that balance patience with drive. Minimum qualifications: terminal degree in health sciences (MD, DNP, etc); holds or is eligible for appropriate licensure for discipline; substantive experience in community/population health delivery.
