Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Education Specialist develops outreach and educational materials covering healthcare acquired infections, antimicrobial resistance, and infections control and prevention. The Education Specialist will work alongside the Epidemiology and Surveillance Program Manager to ensure the most relevant materials are developed using targeted strategies and data analysis. In addition, the Education Specialist will develop a working relationship with long-term care facilities to offer training of staff, provide educational materials, and collaborate with administrators to ensure the necessary training and materials are provided to the long-term care facilities.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Develop healthcare acquired infections, antimicrobial resistance, and infection control and prevention curricula
Conduct training activities with long-term care facilities
Review Emails
Recap with Supervisor and any key stakeholders
Conducts formal quality assurance reviews with long-term care facilities and upon project completion to confirm acceptance and satisfaction
Interviews, selects, supervises, develops, and if necessary, counsels LTC staff according to established CDC recommendations and HAI, AR, IPC procedures.
Use personal computers and a variety of MS Office software applications
Communicate clearly and effectively
Project management principles, practices, techniques, and methodologies
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree (no experience), or associate's degree plus two years of experience, or high school graduation or GED plus four years of experience.
Special Certifications and License
Valid Texas Driver"s License.
Must be able to obtain Certified Food Manager Certificate within orientation period.

Minimal judgment; instructions, once established and defined, normally allow the job to be accomplished without direct and/or constant supervision; mostly routine work requiring that employee recognize obvious problems.
Initiative and Ingenuity
General guidelines: occasionally requires interpretation of available options to apply to non-standard situations; day-to-day work drives. Greater level of knowledge when applying guidelines and interpretation of available options to non-standard situations.

Frequent contact with the public or other organizations; interactions may require obtaining cooperation of people; courtesy and tact are required when dealing with moderately difficult or sensitive issues.

Responsibility for Equipment and Property
Responsible for use of equipment/property such as office equipment, supplies, etc., which are used in office.
Working Conditions
Fair inside or outside conditions; exposure to disagreeable conditions is brief or otherwise insignificant; space problems; only occasional situations that place the employee in a stressful environment.
Other Requirements
The City of Brownsville requires all employees to successfully pass a Drug & Alcohol and a physical examination, psychological examination, and Background Check.
