The Disability Services Center invites interested candidates to apply for the position of Accommodations Coordinator in the Disability Services Center (DSC) at the University of Southern Maine. The Disability Services Center recognizes disability as a valued aspect of diversity. The center provides resources, education and direct service working towards a vision of a fully inclusive USM experience.
This position is integral to the operations of the DSC with a primary role of coordinating and implementing disability-based accommodations for students including but not limited to test proctoring, ASL/CART and captioning services, securing alternative text through publisher contacts, remediating electronic materials, introduction/demonstration of alternative technology software/hardware to students. A significant component of this position involves exam administration (scheduling and oversight of proctors). The position will supervise a small number of student assistants. The accommodations coordinator operates in a team-based environment by assisting with the overall administration of the office. This includes serving as the secondary contact for the DSC inbox and note taking service. The coordinator will manage the DSC website and departmental communications. This Coordinator manages the day-to-day office operations including but not limited to managing and monitoring multiple office email inboxes, processing initial meeting requests, and communicating policies and procedures to students, faculty, and staff.
This is a full-time position with an annual salary up to $43,000 commensurate with experience and is located on our Portland Campus.

- Bachelor’s degree, equivalent international degree, or two years of college plus six years relevant work experience
- Office management experience
- Ability to manage multiple expectations with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in working with individuals from underrepresented populations.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing technology (e.g. assistive technology, website development, database management) or strong interest in developing these skills.
