Queens, NY metals distributor seeking a professional full-time accountant-bookkeeper.

The Bookkeeper is a highly accountable and results-oriented professional who is ready to hit the ground running by providing support to the organization’s Finance department. Position is responsible for managing daily accounting tasks. Day-to-day activities include, but are not limited to, recording all transactions related to revenue and expenses, and posting them to various accounts. Reporting to the Controller, the Bookkeeper will be part of a dynamic team, aligned in maintaining order and transparency for the organization’s finances. The goal of this position being to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the Finance department and helping the organization be fully aware of its financial condition, allowing the correct decisions to be made in order for the organization to accomplish long term success and scalable growth.

Core position responsibilities include:

  • Track and monitor Accounts Receivable
  • Track and monitor Accounts Payable
  • Enter AP invoices, as received
  • Enter receiving reports associated with AP container invoices
  • Prepare checks, payments, and bank deposits
  • Ensure that required debt payments (company credit cards, loans, or lines of credit) are paid on a timely basis
  • Perform reconciliations – monthly/quarterly/annually
  • Ensure that monthly bank & credit card reconciliations are completed timely for month-end close
  • Maintain a complete digital filing system to support financial records
  • Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements
  • Assist with audits
  • Prepare weekly receivables reporting
  • Prepare weekly payables reporting
  • Update financial data in a timely manner
  • Ensure that information is accurate
  • Identify, propose solutions, and/or communicate to supervisor in a timely manner if the information is not accurate
  • Assist in measuring KPIs and preparing reporting, as requested
  • Assist in coordinating the preparation and compilation of year-end reporting, financial statements, and reconciliations.
  • As needed, assist with other accounting projects

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and G-Suite
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Procedures (GAAP)
  • Promotion of process improvement
  • Good with numbers and figures, and an analytical acumen
  • Critical thinker
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity
  • Great attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and planning skills

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree in accounting and finance, or equivalent business experience
  • Minimum 2-5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial management practices
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements

Standard working hours Monday to Friday on site in Middle Village office. Role includes annual salary of $45,000 to 55,000 and medical benefits.
