As a member of the Finance Team, the Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and Credit. This position ensures adherence to Company policy and procedures, compliance with GAAP, and accurate preparation of financial and managerial reports.

Position responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Manage daily accounting operations by ensuring the accuracy of the General Ledger and documentation of procedures.
  • Manage month-end close process, as well as the financial statement reporting and distribution.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws by ensuring property tax and other required reporting is accurately and timely completed and paid, as appropriate.
  • Financial Statement Audit – assist in the annual audit by preparing audit schedules and providing auditors with substantiation and documentation.
  • Operating & Capital Budgets – Assist in the creation of annual Company Owned Stores budgets.

Financial Reporting:

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing and analysis.
  • Lead the creation of financial reports for the Corporate Office Management for evaluation and planning purposes by collecting and formatting necessary information.

Internal Controls:

  • Assist in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the Accounting Department by:
    • Ensuring Department policies and procedures are designed to support strong internal controls;
    • Ensuring compliance with Company and Department policies and procedures;
    • Identifying weaknesses policies and procedures, and recommending updates to strengthen internal controls, when appropriate;
    • Ensuring compliance with GAAP; and
    • Continuously improving the Department through the use of technology and streamlined processes and workflow.
  • Assist as a backup to other accounting positions.
  • Carries out other functions as assigned by the supervisor.

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Accounting/Finance from a four-year college or university; at least 5 years of hands-on financial experience in a fast-paced environment with supervisory experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Master of Business Administration (MBA) is preferred, but not required for this role.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Ability to create financial reports from given information.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Problem solving skills: listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
  • Project management skills: establishing objectives, timelines, and deadlines; action planning to meet deadlines; evaluating current and future positions.
  • Ability to establish and continuously improve work procedures and systems.
  • Ability to communicate information across different individuals, departments, and external parties.
