Accounting/Payroll Clerk

Our team has a current opening for a full-time Accounting/Payroll Clerk (A/P Clerk), which offers a great opportunity to start a career in public service in an excellent working environment.

Enfield is a community of approximately 4,600 permanent residents (the population increases substantially with seasonal residents during the summer months), situated in the Upper Valley Region approximately 10-20 minutes from the population centers of Lebanon and Hanover. Enfield is an attractive community with a wide range of local businesses, a proud Shaker cultural heritage, two large scenic lakes, and an abundance of open space.

Under the direction of the Assistant Town Manager this position ensures accurate accounting and reporting of Town finances and payroll activities. Responsible for the administration and maintenance of financial records of the Town of Enfield, including, but not limited to, accounts payable/receivable, revenue maintenance, general ledger maintenance, trial balance, grants, and related financial reports, and other financial duties as assigned.

Starting salary is up to $28.68 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Preference will be given to those with an associate degree or higher. Two years’ experience in bookkeeping, payroll, government finance or equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the desired knowledge, skills, or abilities.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

· Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and methods, with the ability to adapt established methods to varied accounting transactions.

· Ability to perform detailed work involving written and numerical data, with the ability to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.

· Proficient with computer programs including financial software and Microsoft Office applications

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Knowledge of and ability to comprehend programs, laws, and processes required in municipal finance and payroll.

· Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

· Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with local officials, the general

public, and employees.

· Ability to resolve customer complaints or problems.

· Willingness to work with others and learn.
