Location: Massachusetts (Hybrid; one day in office strongly preferred)

Status: Full Time; Exempt

Facing History and Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to bigotry and hate.

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for a variety of accounting responsibilities within the Finance Office. The Accounting Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for all Concur processing. In addition, this individual will perform several general ledger accounting activities such as the monthly reconciliation of various accounts along with follow-up processes for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable accounts. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Specialist interacts closely with other members of the Finance team and works with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct the employee reimbursements and credit card reporting within the Concur system. Verify accurate general ledger reporting of all expenses in Concur

  • Posts all Salesforce entries including Pledges and reclassification of the control account

  • Reconciles Salesforce with the general ledger for all pledge and revenue accounts.

  • Manage accrued liabilities on a monthly basis along with other smaller balance sheet accounts

  • Provide support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable regarding follow-up on Accounts Payable bill processing and Accounts Receivable collections

  • Give support in processes regarding daily deposit of checks and credit cards

  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance on documentation and monitoring of control policies and procedures for financial and related operating functions regarding areas of responsibility

  • Perform ongoing accounting and internal financial reporting tasks including preparation of journal entries, analysis of various accounts

  • Serve as one of the back-ups for Financial Statements, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and deposits. Works closely with the Senior Accountant and the Manager of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.

  • Interacts broadly with people at all levels across the company including senior executives; specific partnership with HR for payroll

  • Interactions outside the company including customers, vendors, consultants, and others

  • Execute other duties as needed

Essential Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred

  • Minimum of one year accounting experience

  • Or a combination of education and work experience to meet the above qualifications

  • Knowledge of accounting processes and procedures

  • Knowledge of Sage accounting system, payroll systems (Paylocity) application program integration (API) and customer relationship management (CRM)

  • Detailed oriented with a focus on accuracy

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, complete work accurately and meet deadlines

  • Able to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community

  • Works independently with general direction and supervision

  • Customer service oriented
