GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Town of Holly Springs is searching for an Accounting Specialist that performs accounting functions for the Finance Department, and administrative duties for the Town of Holly Springs. Work schedule is normal business hours with occasional nights and weekends. Starting annual salary is $47,382.40.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Position performs detailed technical work supporting fiscal functions for the Finance Department.
  • Responsible for daily deposits for Utility Customer Service, Parks and recreation revenues, Community Development revenues, and Wake County Tax.
  • Position is responsible for Town of Holly Springs mail pick-up and distribution including a daily trip to the post office.
  • Position performs accounts payable function by reviewing and reconciling all of the Town’s monthly health benefit invoices.
  • Position supports bi-weekly payroll function by reviewing payroll register with a distinct focus on changes in personnel (Personnel Action Forms) and benefits/deductions.
  • Position supports bi-weekly accounts payable function by reviewing vendor register listing with a distinct focus on ensuring checks reconcile with invoices on hand.
  • Position supports accounts receivable function by reviewing all entered batches for accuracy.
  • For general accounting, the position supports the monthly internal fund chargeback process.
  • Responsible for daily reconciliations of general ledger accounts and functions as needed.
  • Responsible for entry of Finance Department invoices into the Accounts Payable system.
  • Assists with monthly and year-end closing activities.
  • Tracks revenues and expenditures for reporting as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum two years of college or Associate’s Degree with three years of accounting experience or five years of accounting experience.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Extensive computer skills required. Experience with Microsoft Office (heavy Excel usage) and financial reporting software required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Fund accounting experience or local government fiancé experience.

Supervisory Controls

The supervisor provides assignments by indicating what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of assignments. The supervisor provides additional, specific instructions for new, difficult, or unusual assignments including suggested work methods or advice on source material available.

The employee uses initiative in conducting recurring assignments independently but refers deviations, problems and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the supervisor for clarification and direction.


Supervision Duties

This position does not supervise any other positions.


Personal Contacts

Personal contacts are with employees, with the general public and with individuals or groups from outside the organization representing other organizations.


Physical Demands

The work is generally performed in an office environment with daily outdoor exposure.

In general, the employee sits at a desk to complete most daily assignments. Though, the employee will walk, stand, stoop, and carry light items such as paper and office supplies during the day.

Must be able to drive an automobile for mail duty.

Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds for mail duty.
