Accounting Technician - Sheriff's Office Job at Weld County, CO
Weld County Sheriff's Office is looking for an Office Technician - Accounting professional that is detail oriented, customer service focused and excels at multitasking. The technician will perform a variety of paraprofessional accounting tasks related to multiple accounting transactions which includes responsibility for serving as an office resource in the entry of accounting transactions to the various accounting systems. Perform various office tasks, as needed, to assist with other aspects of Sheriff’s Office administration operations.
Supervision Received: Work under the supervision of the Finance Manager.
Must pass pre-employment screening: background, polygraph, drug screen.
$21.38 - $27.05 per hour plus benefits (see benefits tab on the posting).
As an applicant for this position, you should be aware of Senate Bill 19-085, the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The act requires employers to announce the pay range for job openings. This range encompasses the nine pay steps available should you receive the position and demonstrate satisfactory performance over time. The position will normally start at $21.38 per hour.

Reconcile accounts receivable, and follow up on past due billings with departments or vendors.
Handle refunds and account transfers.
Cash and Check Handling.
Complete bank deposits and reconciliations.
Complete necessary entries for deposits, billing, payables, receivables, and reconciliations in the applicable systems.
Prepare various month-end journal entries.
Analyze payment receipts to determine the appropriate identification of the payor, the account against which the payment should be credited and the general ledger account(s) which should be credited. Input to accounting software, verify accuracy and reconcile to the checks run through check scanner and daily cash intake.
Assist in the researching of incoming bills to verify that all required supporting documentation has been obtained, signatures of authorization for payment have been obtained, and calculations are accurate.
Handle procurement process for small items of equipment, uniforms, and office supplies.
Assist with other administration operations such as, answering phones, fingerprinting, backgrounds, VIN checks, etc.; and serve as a back-up to other technicians in the administration division, as assigned.
Perform tasks pertinent to specialized assignments of position; including, but not limited to, learning specialized software, attending meetings specific to assigned role, attending specialized training for ongoing development in assigned role, and comprehensively documenting information from meetings and trainings to share with other employees in the same role, or in a support role.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Required Experience:
Two years of full-time office clerical experience, one year of which must include accounting duties. Successful completion of appropriate business courses obtained beyond high school may substitute for experience on a year for year basis; it is preferable that the individual has successfully completed college-level, or comparable, courses on the principals of accounting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Must have strong customer service skills.
- Must possess accurate 10 key ability.
- Must possess ability to keyboard at 35 words per minute.
- Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Sheriff's Office organization and functions to accurately direct callers and citizens requesting specific services Preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of general office equipment, and office filing systems and other office procedures.
- Knowledge of proper grammar and punctuation to produce accurate records that are publicly reviewed.
- Interpersonal communication skills to deal effectively with persons of differing backgrounds and behavior patterns in a wide range of settings.
- Group skills to collectively plan, problem solve, and perform effectively as a group member.
- Reference skills to locate accurate information quickly with minimal resource.
- Skills to converse with the public, co workers, and other employees to determine service needs and respond to provide those needs.
- Accurately assess fees based on type of service being requested.
- Effectively communicate with persons of differing backgrounds and behavior patterns in a wide range of settings.
- Collectively plan, problem solve, and perform effectively as a group member; to locate accurate information quickly with minimal resource.
- Communicate effectively in verbal and written English. Bilingual ability in Spanish helpful.
- Apply sound, objective reasoning and decision making; to work effectively as a member of a group; ability to read and/or listen to, comprehend, and apply sometimes complex statutory, legal, policy and directive information.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Reading Comprehension:
Must be able to read and interpret Colorado Statutes, standard operating procedures, Sheriff's and County policy, orders of the court and court documents, and handwritten or typed documents for transcribing.
