What you’ll do:
The Accounts Receivable Specialist manages the collection and posting of amounts owed by customers in a timely and accurate fashion. The successful candidate will display excellent customer service skills assisting valuable customers with managing their account balances.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for setting up and maintaining customer files.
- Process credit applications by performing credit background checks and reference checks.
- Recommend credit limits.
- Ensure payments received are posted to the appropriate customer account.
- Respond to customer inquiries through email and over the phone regarding questions on the amounts owed on invoices.
- Contact customers with past due balances and collect balances owed while preserving customer relationships.
- Prepare monthly AR Statements as needed and assist customers in getting set up for emailed statements.
- Research invoices, customer payments, and other related discrepancies and irregularities and help ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis.
- Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts.
- Perform statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and write narrative reports explaining findings.
- Determine proper handling of financial transactions.
- Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Assist stores with Point-of-Sale invoices, customer balances, and statements.
- Assist with the implementation of systems and internal controls for general accounting.
- Automate and scale the workload as the company grows.
- Recommend improvements to the organization’s accounting operation.
- Perform clerical tasks including making copies, filing, data entry, letter preparation, and mailings.
- Assist all areas of accounting and finance as needed to handle workflow.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, or related field, or 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles.
- Familiar with general ledgers, chart of accounts and bank statements.
- Demonstrated experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
- Prior experience with an ERP system or bookkeeping software extremely helpful, but not required.
- Must be able to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
