We are looking for enthusiastic, adventurous, and attentive camp counselors to guide and motivate adaptive campers this summer. The adaptive camp leaders will work alongside the Adventure Camp Director to develop personal plans and adapt outdoor activities depending on the goals of the camper. Activities include zip lines, ropes course, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, tubing and creek swimming, which the leader can expect to participate in. Additionally, they will be responsible for monitoring the child’s activities during the period of care and communicating openly with the child’s parents about daily activities and behaviors. Adaptive leaders should have strong swimming skills, enjoy outdoor activities in all weather conditions, have experience at a camp or with kids, and enjoy working collaboratively with others for a safe and unique camp experience!

This position has weekend adaptive work year round and non adaptive work options during the week from mid February to the second week in June.

Essential Functions

• Set up activities and offerings to be ready for participants
• Welcome participants with positive energy
• Ensures all procedures are followed
• Works effectively and collaboratively with the Adventure Camp Director and other staff members
• Teaches and facilitates the skills and activities associated with each activity
• Ensures safety, fun, and education are priorities for all activities
• Compete additional tasks as assigned

Requirements

• CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where change and improvement is always present
• Ability to communicate efficiently with others whose first language may not be English
• Maintain a positive and fun attitude
• Must have strong swimming skills
• Experience at other camps or with children
• Must have reliable transportation (no public transportation is available)

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Lift, carry, pull, and push up to 75 pounds
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Comfortable working at heights
• Comfortable in personal watercraft (tube, canoe, stand up paddleboard, and kayak)
