JOB SUMMARY:
The Admissions Counselor, serves as a member of the Enrollment Management Team and incorporates a full range of students, focused admissions responsibilities including personalized contact, engagement with applicants and newly admitted students, evaluation of applications for admissions and helping students finalize their next steps to enrollment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities for this position includes, but are not limited to the following:
- Represent the University at on- campus admissions- related programs and events. Some offcampus events may be required.
- Review applications for admissions, analyze qualifications and exercise judgement of admissibility.
- In consultation with the Offices of the Registrar and Academic Advising, evaluate college/university transcripts for applicants for credit equivalencies and articulation within institutional SIS.
- Conduct interviews with prospective students and parents, providing accurate information regarding admissions standards, academic and related programs, student life, cost and financial aid.
- Implement follow-up activities including written and electronic correspondence and telephone calls.
- Plan and execute special projects in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the office.
- Works closely with members of the admissions leadership team in the development, implementation and evaluation of the university's strategic recruitment plan and leverage/analysis of enrollment data in the decision making process.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) skills, vibrant personality, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills are essential.
- Knowledge of the University of St. Thomas culture and represent the University mission to prospective students.
- Ability to develop congenial and productive working relationships with University of St. Thomas administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to work in a goal driven and measured performance enviornment.
- Possess high energy, attention to detail, and the ability to organize effectively.
- Capable of multitasking and prioritizing tasks to adhere to deadlines.
- A valid driver's license and must be able to work extended hours or weekend during peak times and for special programs, projects and events.
- Able to travel and work flexible hours to include nights and weekends.
- Must reside in the Houston area and be prepared to report for in-person activities as requested.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods. This position is in an active office atmosphere, and one must have the ability to climb stairs and do some light lifting (up to 20 pounds). Evening and weekend work is necessary.
