Malvern Treatment Centers is currently looking for a Full-Time Admissions Counselor I to work in our Intake and Admissions department at our Malvern-King Road campus. Schedule would be 9:00am to 9:30pm, three days per week. This 36 hour a week position is a full time, benefit eligible position! This position does include one weekend a month commitment (7am-7:30pm)
Position Summary: The Admissions Counselor I provides telephonic and in person risk assessment and crisis intervention, initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, completes all required computer data entry, facilitates the admission process and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients and unit staff. The Admissions Counselor I collaborates with multiple disciplines to discuss placement of referrals.
Summary of Essential Position Functions:
- Providing telephonic phone support to assists patients access treatment and referral sources.
- Review of clinical documentation submitted by outside agencies.
- Identifies and provides written assessment of patients on admission. Documents current needs/problems and past medical, psychiatric, drug and alcohol history. Assessment addresses bio-psychosocial needs.
- Identifies appropriateness of admissions by using established medical criteria.
- Explains the consent and intake forms and obtains patient signatures for each form.
- Completes intake assessments and enters the information from the interview into the correct EMR fields.
- Verifies insurance through eligibility portals to ensure patient’s are insured.
- Creates patient charts by adding demographics and diagnosis to the billing system.
- Obtains insurance authorizations from the insurance companies and documents the authorization information accurately and relays the information to the appropriate department i.e.- billing, utilization management, and nursing.
- Responds to and directs emergency situations as necessary.
- Communicates pertinent clinical information for unit hand-off.
- Works positively and cooperatively with other team members to facilitate good patient care. This includes clear interdepartmental communication to include notification to nursing and clinical aides of expected admissions time and notification to nursing of the substance the patient is using.
- Prepares and certifies the accuracy of the morning and midnight census.
- Works with the clinical staff to appropriately facilitate room moves to accommodate new referrals.
- Participates in continuing education (in- services & other trainings) to reach professional growth.
- Follows all infection control practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s perferred. Knowledge of addictive diseases preferred. Healthcare, Admissions, Insurance experience preferred.
Technical/Computer Skills: MS Office, billing software, telephone, and other office equipment. EMR experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping. Drug and alcohol free as evidence by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen.
