Miami Children's Museum is looking for a new TCT Afterschool Certified Instructor to join their team! This position will be reporting to Kelsey Pharr Elementary, Earlington Heights Elementary, and Skyway Elemenetary.

The After School Certified Instructor is responsible for the general supervision and management of a group of students. The After School Certified Instructor is responsible for the differentiated instruction of students needing reading assistance. Oversee the implementation of the Reading component and assist other staff members in the training of this component.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the children assigned in your care
  • Provides differentiated instruction (small group intervention to not exceed more than 5 or on a one-to-one basis) to students identified as "frustrational" readers as per the I-STEEP MAZE and ORF Assessments
  • Develops and implements lesson plans that address each child’s needs based on phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
  • Utilizes the literacy performance outcomes as a guide to help adjust the level of intervention children need
  • Trains and guides other staff members on how to implement and deliver the reading curriculum to ensure the designated curriculum is being implemented with fidelity
  • Instructs and supports other staff members on how to implement differentiated instruction based on the reading level of the children in their care
  • Provides a literacy training to staff (combined efforts with other certified teachers) to ensure there is fidelity not only in the implementation of group literacy activities, but increase reading abilities at all levels
  • Protects company assets as well as those of the classroom teachers; responsible for maintaining all after school materials: neat, organized, and in good working conditions
  • Records the daily attendance of students at the time differentiated instruction is provided; responsible for accurately filling out all required information on the differentiated instruction form provided
  • Monitors, observes, and documents any behavioral challenges a child may exhibit; creates and implements an incentive program that will aid in minimizing behavioral challenges and or provides students with the needed support to increase their success
  • Portrays positive attitudes with children in resolving conflicts, identifying feelings, describing problems, negotiating differences, and generating solutions; teacher encourages cooperation and redirecting unacceptable behavior as well as using positive approaches to help children deal with anger and frustration
  • Committed to the concept of teamwork, sharing of ideas, materials, and services; works in a professional manner with peers, supervisors and individuals from other departments and/or school board personnel; willing to share responsibilities and assume other tasks in emergencies
  • Attends and completes all required trainings (staff meetings, funder trainings and mandated childcare course work)
  • In-service course work, a minimum of 10 hours yearly that reinforces the proponents of best practices for school age, early care and education
  • Supports the goals, objectives, and philosophy of the After School program
  • Adheres to policies and procedures in the Miami Children’s Museum’s Employee Handbook
  • Communicate with the Site Coordinator to discuss issues that need resolution, including those involving individual students or their caregivers, classroom spaces, or program, Museum/School, or staff
  • Communicate with parents in a positive manner
  • Maintains confidentiality of any parent/student information gathered during the program
  • Complies with other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education or related field
  • MUST have a State of Florida Teaching Certificate, preferably in Reading
  • At least one year experience leading groups of children in an educational setting (this time frame may be shorter for applicants with prior teaching experience within the Museum)
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Strong organization skills
  • CPR/First Aid certified
