ASCEND PROJECT OVERVIEW

With full support of the Southern Company Management Council, the electric operating companies recently approved a four-year business initiative leveraging technology to help the electric operating companies realize the vision for a modernized, efficient digital customer experience to deeply engage with our customers and provide a more personalized experience. The initiative will implement new Customer Information (CIS) and Meter Data Management (MDM) systems, along with an advanced analytics platform, enhanced customer engagement tools for our customers and a modern agent desktop. The program will impact all 4.2 million electric customers across all our customer engagement channels (Voice Response Unit, web portals, mobile app, etc.) and includes billing over $52 billion annually for Southern Company. This initiative is focused on the electric operating companies. The project team will consist of an estimated 450 internal and external resources spread across five workstreams.

Positions within the ASCEND Program will be filled based on the requirements of the job along with taking into consideration the needs of the business and overall project scope. Candidates should answer all applicable questions thoroughly as this information will be used to select the successful candidates.

The location for this position is flexible within the electric opco territories. While these roles are expected to be hybrid work, approximately 20-40% travel is expected for these leadership roles within the electric operating company footprint. For this reason, it is preferred that resources are located within the electric service territory for these leadership positions.

The successful candidate will remain an employee of the operating company while reporting to the ASCEND Project Team and may report to a SCS or operating company leader for delivery.

JOB SUMMARY – Business Process Lead – Advanced Analytics Platform

Within the ASCEND project, the Advanced Analytics Platform (AAP) Business Process Lead (BPL) will be responsible for data analytics and integrating insights into customer processes in the front office, back office and various digital channels. The Business Process Lead will have responsibility for leading a team of data and analytics technology resources that will refine requirements, design and develop the golden record database, develop and implement the ETL process, and implement a self-service model for data consumption. This resource group will work closely with the business to understand, refine, design, and implement solutions to support identified business analytic needs. This position will work with consultants assigned to the engagement to coordinate and collaborate and ensure enterprise technology processes and policies are followed.

There will be alignment for technology employees to the technology leaders and business employees to business leaders.

The Business Process Lead will have direct reporting and project delivery responsibility for a team consisting of Architects, Engineers, Developers, Business Analysts, and vendor resources.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure resources are on-hand and effectively utilized; maintaining the ability to ‘flex’ to meet AAP business demands
  • Coordinate work assignments between this team and other groups within the ASCEND project
  • Take a leadership role in ensuring data and analytics strategies and goals are being met
  • Supervision of the day-to-day activities and work guidance for direct reports and consultants
  • Performance management for the AAP team, including performance appraisals, mentoring, coaching, employee development, and providing technical leadership to less experienced staff
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and direction to the team, including developers, contractors, and vendors
  • Develop, maintain, and manage comprehensive resource plans, work prioritization, and delivery of project commitments
  • Contribute strategic thinking related to how data and analytics contributes to and support the ASCEND project, the Business, and the Enterprise
  • Implement and maintain production support processes focused on the identification and mitigation of root cause
  • Collaborate with Cloud, Security and Infrastructure teams for provisioning and hosting of cloud infrastructure
  • Ability to partner with peers across the Enterprise and serve on system committees to ensure design elements meet business needs, create efficiencies, and garner support for key issues affecting front and back-office customer operations
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage through change

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or a related field required
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities
  • Knowledge and understanding of data warehousing, data engineering, data governance, data security, data quality, and data visualization concepts
  • Strong understanding of modern hybrid (On-Prem Cloud) data architectures and cloud-computing concepts
  • Strong understanding of the data and analytics tools, technologies, and capabilities
  • Ability to embrace, propagate and implement change in the team and organization
  • Ability to work with business partners and peers of varying levels of technical proficiency
  • Interest in and passion for learning and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with large, enterprise projects and production support
  • Ability to identify root cause as well as mitigation required while working with other technical staff
  • Experience creating and refining Functional and Technical Design Documents
  • Comprehensive, recognized leadership skills that build relationships and develop a team atmosphere
  • Knowledge of business analyst processes, methodology and tools
  • Demonstrated experience successfully delivering through the Agile delivery framework (Scrum, SAFe, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Coordinates with the ASCEND project to agree on the best approaches for delivering solutions and testing activities for the Advanced Analytics Platform.

  • Support manager in ensuring internal controls and governance are achieved in compliance with policies and standards
