We are looking for our first Community Outreach Manager to lead grant writing, manage social media, be a liaison to our Communications Consultant, increase community partnerships that benefit people and pets and increase outreach in Wake County! About Our Team
The Wake County Animal Center is an open-admission animal shelter operated by Wake County Government and on average takes about 11,000 animals each year. We receive all stray, abandoned and surrendered pets in Wake County. The Center works in partnership with fosters, volunteers and local rescues to treat and rehome thousands of homeless animals every year. The Community Outreach Manager will be part of the Senior Management Team and work closely with the Animal Services Director, Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator, Communications Consultant and other Animal Center staff as well as other Wake County teams and community groups to promote the Animal Center and Outreach within Wake County. This position will supervise the Volunteer Outreach Coordinator.
The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree
Three years of experience in animal center operations
One year of supervisory/managerial experience
Equivalent education and experience are accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
One year of Community Outreach Experience
One year of Animal Care Experience

Strong media/public relations, social media and promotional background
Strong interpersonal skills – outgoing, patient, professional and able to get along well with a variety of people
Actively looking for ways to help people
Strong attention to detail (including deadlines) and excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of social media usage and ways to target community members, communication and dissemination techniques and
methodsThis includes alternative ways to inform community members via written, oral and visual media
Knowledge of animal behavior and response to human interactions, individual differences within species, understanding and identifying normal and abnormal behavior, including fearful, animals under stress and stereotypical behavior
Managing one’s own time to accomplish assigned tasks and shared responsibilities

Employment Type: Regular
Work Schedule: M-F 9:00AM-5:30PM with some nights and weekends required for events
Hiring Range: $57,623-$77,794
