The Role

Reporting to the Engineer Manager, you will be part of our Technical Services department and provide guidance to a certified NDE Technician. You'll also work closely with Engineering and the Safety organization. In addition, you'll work with fabricators to ensure code compliance.


In general, you will work with another API inspector in direct support of engineers to provide technical input and guidance in the inspection, repair, re-rate, and alteration of equipment at the refinery. This will include producing and presenting technically accurate documentation for use in the assessment and disposition of plant equipment.

  • Perform visual and non-destructive examination of equipment in accordance with American Petroleum Institute (API) RC 510, 570, 653, and 751.
  • Submit technically accurate reports documenting equipment condition to your supervisor.
  • Provide technical recommendations for the repair, re-rate, replacement, and/or alteration of plant equipment, as required for safe operation within stated operating parameters for durations.
  • Provide technical guidance in the application of non-destructive examination techniques and procedures.
  • Maintain neat and relevant files and records.
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with management.
  • Perform other duties as required or directed.


The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the API Inspector opportunity, you will have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification to American Petroleum Institute Standards 510.
  • Knowledge of Risk-Based Inspection and FFS strategies.
  • Knowledge of API 751.
  • API 570 and 653 certification is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in petrochemical environments, preferably refinery processing.
  • A working knowledge of PCMS is preferred.
  • ASNT-TC-1A PT, UTT, MT, VT certifications a plus.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and other relevant software programs.
  • A strong commitment to safety.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • Strong mathematical, mechanical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
