The Assistant Swim Team Coach assists the Head Coach in leading age-appropriate activities for groups of swimmers at practices.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fulfill the Y's mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
  • Attend all practices and swim meets.
  • Instruct swimmers to understand and master strokes allowing them to advance through the swim team groups
  • Provide corrective feedback that will enhance swimmers' techniques.
  • Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents.
  • Ensure the safety of swimmers during practice by following proper precautions and regulations.
  • Lead warm ups and group practices with enthusiasm and care.
  • Encourage the involvement of all participants.
  • Assist with the recruiting, development and maintaining volunteers and parent groups/committees.
  • Maintain records, organize equipment, and ensure completion of forms

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Prior coaching experience preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proper swim techniques and strokes.
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer preferred.
  • Visual abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to instruct with empathy and clarity.

  • Lead, demonstrate and/or participate in water activities for a sustained period of time.
  • Climbing, bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity and swimming.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Exposure to cleaning and pool chemicals as well as hot or cold temperatures.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
  • Work environment is frequently slippery and wet.
  • May be required to work outside and on occasion may encounter inclement weather.
  • Travel to and from competition may be required.
