Job Summary
Reviews and processes all requests for hearings before the Domestic Relations Referees. Assigns Referee hearing dates and maintains Referee hearing schedules. Processes in pro se motions and notices of hearing. Provides information, forms, and general directions to Friend of the Court customers. This includes, but is not limited to answering general questions regarding Friend of the Court policies and procedures, providing various self-help motions and forms, answering case specific questions, and referring customers to other agencies and/or courts. The individual in this position is the first point of contact for most Friend of the Court customers. Principle Duties and Responsibilities
100.00% - The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Reviews and processes all in pro se motions that are heard by a Domestic Relations Referee, including, review of motion, assignment of hearing date, certificate of mailing, notice of hearing, service and filing.
Assigns Referee hearing dates as requested by attorneys, pursuant to pre-trial notices, and at the direction of the Domestic Relations Referee.
Maintains hearing schedule for Domestic Relations Referees, prepares hearing worksheets, and prepares weekly hearing dockets.
Coordinates requests for adjournments and appearances by telephone.
Answers and directs calls on a multi-line telephone.
Completes data entry.
Greets and directs walk-in traffic in a busy court environment.
Listens and responds to customers, determines the customers" needs, and provides the appropriate information, forms, and instructions to the customer.
Processes returned mail.
Reviews forms for correct use of form, required form, and completeness of form.
Refers customers to other staff in the office when necessary.
Refers customers to other courts and/or agencies when necessary.
Contact and schedule interpreter services for the clients when needed for hearings.
Contact and schedule interpreter services for the clients for mediation and/or psychological evaluations
Produce Notice of Hearings at the request of the Referee(s)
Produce Orders and Notice of Hearings for Vodvarka and/or Evidentiary Hearings at the request of the Referee(s)
Produce Motions and Orders pertaining to telephonic hearings for prisoners housed in the state of Michigan.
Schedule hearings for the Enforcement Offices, Staff Attorney, and Legal Assistant
Produce Postal Verifications to help the clients receive their FOC mail, Orders, and Notice of Hearings.
Produce end of year counts of hearings/types of hearings that took place
Cleaning the lobby area regarding Covid-19 threat. Windows, counters, tables and doors.
May perform other responsibilities as directed by the Deputy FOC / Friend of the Court.
Physical Requirements and/or Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing five to twenty-five pounds. Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications/Experience - QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED is required. College course work is preferred. Fluency in the Spanish language is desirable.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years previous work experience in legal, human services, or related field is required. Previous experience serving the public is preferred. Will consider other relevant education or professional experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Abilities, Knowledge, and Skills -
Must be able to answer and direct calls on a multi-line telephone system.
Must be able to prioritize and manage telephone calls, walk-in customers, forms processing, and other assignments.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
Demonstrated ability to process work assignments in an accurate, efficient, and effective manner.
Knowledge of Michigan Court Rules and statutes relating to domestic relations actions, and Friend of the Court Office procedures.
Must be able to read and comprehend court pleadings.
Must possess basic keyboarding skills and demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Internet usage. Must be able to learn and apply other software applications that are specific to Friend of the Court use.
Must be able to complete and pass required system certifications.
Must be able to operate basic office equipment, i.e. PC, copier, multi-line telephone, calculator, scanner, and facsimile machine, etc.
Must possess excellent organizational skills.
Must possess excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of Friend of the Court case records.
Must be able to adapt to change and technology innovations.
Supervision Received
Work is performed under the general direction of the Deputy Friend of the Court. Additional Information

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to work with people who are operating in financially and emotionally stressful situations. Must be able to maintain neutrality and objectivity when working with customers. Must be able to perform job responsibilities and provide customer service in a bias-free manner. Must be able to work independently, but also function as part of a team. Must be willing and able to attend ongoing training both in the Office and at out-of-office locations, possibly involving overnight stays.

Employment is dependent on background check, criminal history and fingerprint check, and drug screen. Applicant must complete County application form. Must be able to maintain a record of orderly, law-abiding citizenship, sobriety, and integrity. Must adhere to the Model Code of Conduct for Michigan Trial Court Employees.
