Assistant Building Inspector/Plan Examiner/Code Enforcement Position

The Village of Kings Point is accepting resumes to fill the position of a FULL TIME Plans Examiner/Assistant Building Inspector/Code Enforcement

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture and engineering or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related profession.
• All candidates MUST possess a valid driver’s licenses.
• Certification as a New York State Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) would be beneficial but is not required. If appointed, certification as a CEO will be mandatory within one year.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Candidates must have comprehensive knowledge of all phases of construction, as well as architectural and engineering practices.
• Considerable knowledge of the various codes, laws, regulations and zoning ordinances relating to the construction, alteration, and repair of buildings.
• Review plans and specifications for compliance with legal requirements; recommend approval of same, and issuance of permits for approved construction works.
• Assists in performing field inspections of new construction and alterations to existing structures in order to determine compliance with building and zoning codes, safety and health regulations, specifications, adequate workmanship, and proper quality of materials used.
• Assists in investigating complaints of violations of building, zoning, or related codes, ordinances and regulations.
• Assists in investigating structural damage caused by fire, accident, or deterioration, to determine the feasibility of repair or demolition.
• Notifies property owners, contractors, or their authorized representatives of any violations discovered and reinspects building to ensure correction of violations.
• Assists in explaining and interpreting legal requirements relating to building construction and alterations, to taxpayers, contractors, and other concerned parties.
• Familiarity with building department administrative procedures and application processes is required.
• The candidate must be motivated, self-sufficient, organized, reliable, poised, confident, able to quickly observe and absorb information, and collaborate well with others.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities are a must.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
• Considerable knowledge of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.
• Maintains records of all inspections and prepares related reports.
• Issues summonses and testifies at trials.
