Position Title: YouthLine Assistant Director of Education and Outreach
Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Reports To: YouthLine Deputy Director
Compensation: $*58,000-70,000k (DOE)* plus full Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance. Matching 401k, professional development funds, and a free fitbit.

  • *This position requires a hybrid schedule which includes working in-person at the Lines for Life headquarters generally 3 days per week.
  • Schedule: * Typically Monday – Friday 8:30am-5 with occasional evenings and weekends.

YouthLine Assistant Director of Education and Outreach Position Summary: *This position directs Lines for Life’s YouthLine Education and Outreach programs, providing statewide strategic direction for the YouthLine outreach team in order to: increase awareness of YouthLine services, provide education for youth and youth-serving agencies on suicide prevention, and teach mental wellness; recruit volunteers for the YouthLine Program; and reach underserved and unrepresented communities. This position also provides oversight for the School Suicide Prevention and Wellness Program, manages YouthLine-related social media outreach, and maintains informational print and web-based materials for the YouthLine. This position acts as a working manager who joins the team in outreach initiatives to achieve goals and meet outcomes as needed.

YouthLine Assistant Director of Education and Outreach Responsibilities: *

  • Strategic planning and leadership
  • Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the goals and philosophies of Lines for Life.
  • Participate in creating and implementing YouthLine strategic goals with other members of the program’s leadership team.
  • Develop a scalable and sustainable strategy for statewide YouthLine education and outreach programs, which includes identifying strategies to increase engagement with underrepresented and underserved communities. Collaborate with the School Suicide Prevention and Wellness Program Manager to create a sustainable strategy for that program.
  • Recruit, onboard, supervise, evaluate, and coach YouthLine staff and interns, including: the Outreach Coordinator, the Outreach Specialist, and the School Suicide Prevention and Wellness Program Manager.
  • Actively participate in the fiscal oversight and budget process for the YouthLine by managing the Education and Outreach budget.
  • Collaborate with the Development team on grant writing and reporting for education and outreach related opportunities.
  • Outreach Oversight and Facilitation
  • Oversee YouthLine staff, interns, and volunteers at classroom and community outreach events including workshops, conferences, youth presentations, and tabling events. Establish rapport and assist with establishing mentorship relationships between YouthLine outreach staff and volunteers.
  • Provide a framework to the YouthLine Outreach Coordinator for the identification and implementation of classroom and community education and outreach events that meet YouthLine Outreach Intentions: Raise awareness of YouthLine, Destigmatize mental health, Normalize help-seeking behaviors and other skill-building, Offer resources, Culturally relevant resources for underserved communities, and Volunteer recruitment.
  • Train outreach staff on best practices for delivering in-class presentations educating students and the community about youth mental health, suicide, drug and alcohol, bullying, and other topics that relate to Lines for Life and the YouthLine’s mission. Provide training and guidance on how to handle difficult questions.
  • Support outreach activities, as needed, by facilitating classroom education and participating in outreach events.
  • Collaborate with Lines for Life staff and volunteers to promote and run special events.
  • Networking & Partnership Development
  • Develop new strategic partnership opportunities that support the efforts of the YouthLine and Lines for Life, including but not limited to: law enforcement, school districts, community mental health, pediatrics, and other youth-oriented providers.
  • Maintain and strengthen existing partnerships statewide via collaborative meetings, trainings, educational presentations, and outreach.
  • Collaborate with state-level partner agencies to inform and implement policy level recommendations to reduce and prevent Youth Suicide.
  • Identify and speak at events and forums that promote mental health, wellness, and reducing stigma.
  • School Suicide Prevention and Wellness Program
  • Provide strategic oversight to the School Suicide Prevention and Wellness Program supporting a team of 1 program manager and 4 regional coordinators that provides statewide technical assistance on best practices for comprehensive school suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention plans for Education Service Districts (ESDs), school districts, or individual schools.
  • YouthLine Social Media, Collateral, and Website
  • Manage all aspects of YouthLine collateral, including print materials, apparel, and other promotional items. Track inventory, order additional materials, manage deliveries to schools and other entities, and partner closely with vendor to maintain this service.
  • Oversee the maintenance, evolution, and strategic growth of YouthLine’s social media presence. Delegate responsibilities to outreach team members as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with YouthLine Deputy Director to manage the program website, including regular updates, content edits, and strategic growth to better serve constituents with the program’s online presence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

YouthLine Assistant Director of Education and Outreach Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the social services/mental health field
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Supervision experience or demonstrated supervisory skills
  • Experience with or demonstrated skills teaching or facilitating presentation for groups
  • Strong aptitude for networking with and engaging various groups of people
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and a web-based computer environment
  • Intermediate social media skills
  • Ability to manage stressful situations with professionalism and care

YouthLine Assistant Director of Education and Outreach Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the social services/mental health field/education
  • Experience working in adolescent mental health
  • Crisis Intervention Training (i.e., ASIST, safeTALK, Youth Mental Health First Aid, etc.)
  • Organizational development experience and/or demonstrated skills in systems-thinking approaches

YouthLine Assistant Director of Education and Outreach Work Schedule: This position requires a flexible schedule to attend outreach meetings, trainings, and events. This position will occasionally work evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position will regularly travel to schools, community events, and meetings within the state of Oregon.

YouthLine *Assistant Director of Education and Outreach Compensation: The starting wage for this position for those with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is $58,000. The top wage of $70,000k is for those with a Master’s Degree in a related field plus over 2 years of related experience.
