The Morrow Group, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, is seeking an Assistant Director of Publicity. The Morrow Group is comprised of several imprints – flagship imprint William Morrow, as well as Dey Street Books, Mariner Books, Harvest, and Avon Books – and publishes a range of titles across most publishing categories, including mysteries, romance, literary fiction, cookbooks, politics, history, memoir and pop culture. The Assistant Director of Publicity will work on titles across all Morrow imprints and all genres.

The salary range for this position is $85,000-$95,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. - Personally handles all publicity activities on assigned campaigns to ensure success including: determining budgets, developing proper angles and pitches, writing pitch letters and press releases, coordinating galley and finished book mailings, booking national and local publicity, scheduling author events and travel, organizing publicity updates for division and sales force.
- Fosters and maintains substantive relationships with key broadcast, print, and digital media contacts.
- Regularly attends author pitch meetings and strategy meetings.
- Participates in and contributes publicity perspective to key internal meetings, including senior staff meetings, acquisitions meetings, and marketing meeting.
- Liaises with key departments such as marketing, sales, and editorial to ensure a cohesive message is being made throughout marketing/publicity initiatives.
- Briefs authors on how to handle interviews and accompanies authors to interviews where appropriate.
- At least 5 years of hands-on book publicity experience with increasing levels of responsibility for campaign and people management
- Experience working on fiction and nonfiction
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines with budgetary constraints and changing priorities (must be extremely flexible and versatile)
- Must be able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
- Superb written and verbal communication skills
- Must be an independent and strategic thinker
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with internal business teams to achieve outstanding business results
- Extensive media contacts with strong relationships within the marketplace
