Assistant Environmental Chemist/Scientist - Remediation (Kansas City) Job at Burns & McDonnell
Description
The Assistant Environmental Chemist/Scientist will assist in evaluating the impact of chemicals in soil, surface water, and groundwater. This position will assist in field sampling, investigations, and report writing for federal, state, local clients, commercial , oil and gas, and clean energy clients.
- Assist in conducting field surveys, assessments and collecting project-related data for analysis in environmental impact projects.
- Assist in preparation of technical reports, environmental impact statements and environmental field studies.
- Assists with sampling and analyzing of soil, groundwater, surface water, air and other solids and liquids.
- Assist with the review of laboratory reports to confirm that quality assurance and quality control procedures were followed appropriately.
- Assist with the evaluation of chemical fate and transport, including the degradation of compounds within the environment.
- Assist in the review of environmental per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) analytical data for the purpose of assessing potential sources (I.e, fingerprinting).
- Assist in the evaluation of geochemical datasets to inform conclusions regarding likely contaminant degradation pathways.
- Assist in the development of site characterization strategies.
- Assist in the evaluation of laboratory data submittals.
- Assist in the establishment of environmental databases and actively manage robust databases of chemical data.
- Assist in the review of journal articles for new advances regarding the chemistry, behavior, and fate and transport of emerging contaminants and/or new analytical techniques.
- Assists with inventory of incoming field samples.
- Assists with recommending chemical solutions required for use in the laboratory.
- Basic knowledge of placarding and load segregation requirements when transporting hazardous materials.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field from an accredited program required.
- Master's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science or a related field preferred.
- Basic understanding of environmental processes affecting the fate and transport of contaminants in the environment.
- Experience with per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information.
- Basic knowledge of environmental site assessment methods.
- Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
- Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
