Assistant Operations Research Analyst Job at Argonne National Laboratory
Basic Purpose
- To apply mathematical and statistical expertise to ongoing analytic efforts related to critical infrastructure security and resilience, national preparedness, and disaster response and recovery operations.
- Applicants should be well-versed in the development and use of various statistical models and techniques, as well as a range of analytical and visualization software/programming languages.
- This work includes developing and applying methodologies, tools, and techniques to support policy and operational decision-making.
In this position you will:
- Conducts research on infrastructure systems and emergency management to support quantitative analysis of risk drivers, optimization factors, and cost-benefit tradeoffs related to security and resilience.
- Works with data sets of different size/scale/completeness to address challenging, non-routine analytic questions, applying a range of appropriate methods.
- Supports full spectrum of data analysis pipeline including data gathering, processing, analysis, and management.
- Solves complex problems via a combination of analytic judgment and proven analytic practices.
- Develops new analytic tools and datasets.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data science, operations research, computer science, economics, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of mathematical modeling and statistical analysis techniques and applications.
- Skill in using a variety of data analysis/visualization software and tool sets.
- Skill in developing, managing, and using relational databases.
- Experience with a range of programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, R, SQL) and associated libraries.
- Skill in applying analytic techniques to different technical domains.
- Skill in working effectively in a team.
- Skill in written and oral communication.
- Skill in communicating complex problems and solutions to a variety of audiences.
