The Fine Arts Department at the College of St. Scholastica is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) position in the Art Program. This position has teaching, scholarship, and college and community service expectations. The Fine Arts Department values a collaborative approach to teaching learners of all ages and cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Success in this position includes a demonstrated commitment to diversity as it enhances our students’ educational experience and provides tools to be culturally respectful, professionally competent, and civically responsible.

Successful candidates should have demonstrated expertise in Photography and/or Design with a strong exhibition and/or publication record. A typical course load at the College is 12 credits each semester and may include classes in photography, design, and basic 2D foundation courses. Additional commitments include managing the college’s darkroom, advising students, and assisting with program assessment.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to engage students with the curriculum as well as with the broader local arts community alongside the ten full time members of the Fine Arts Department. The Art Program offers specific areas of study in Studio Art, Design, Photography, Painting and Drawing, and Film and New Media.

Applicants must hold a Master of Arts (MFA preferred) at the time of appointment in an appropriate, related discipline. Previous experience in teaching required, with a minimum of two years preferred. The appointment is for a nine-month contract.

Key Results/Responsibilities
  • Teaching a total of 24 credits (most courses are 2 or 4 credits) in photography, design and/or foundational art courses.
  • Managing our on-campus darkroom and student employees
  • Advising students in the major
  • Networking with local artists
  • Maintaining an active exhibition record
  • Assisting with program assessment
  • Assisting with on-campus exhibitions



Required Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • Master degree in Art or a related field
  • Record of teaching experience
  • Evidence of professional activity in the arts
  • Ability to teach Photography, 2D studio art, design and/or art foundations
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills and multicultural competency
  • Demonstrated experience interacting effectively with diverse students, faculty and staff

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Art or Design
  • Two years teaching experience at a collegiate level in multiple mediums
  • Extensive exhibition record
  • Ability to teach new media, art history and/or art theory
