Position Summary:

The Department of Human Services is searching for colleagues who will bring expertise in tribal child welfare and tribal human services, youth development, substance use treatment, and/or corrections and community re-entry. The department has a strong interest in new faculty members who can teach across the AAS and BHS curriculum and who offer expertise in the promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Ability to address gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and geographic diversity is an important competence that new faculty will bring to the department.

Duties:

1001. Engage in instruction that fosters student effectiveness in the provision of human services in diverse contexts, and that is consistent with accreditation requirements. 2. Engage in instruction in hybrid formats through in person and on-line delivery within the courses for which they are responsible. 3. Infuse technology in their instruction and achieve student-learning outcomes to strengthen digital literacy among students. 4. Advance student writing and communication competencies within all their courses. 5. Instruct students in ways that are consistent with best practices in student retention and success. 6. Link instruction to students’ practicum experience achieving integration between courses and practicum. 7. Advance the use of competence-based electronic portfolios in the courses for which they are responsible so that students can document their learning processes, achievement of learning outcomes, and distinctive qualities as human services professionals at the undergraduate level. 8. Take leadership for and/or collaborate with colleagues in advancing funding and projects for workforce development in tribal child welfare, behavioral health, substance use treatment, and/or corrections and community re-entry. 9. Collaborate with community organizations in advancing opportunities for students in service learning, civic engagement, and/or practicum. 10. Facilitate opportunities for adult learners to become aware of human services education and careers, enter degree or other educational programs, and achieve success in their educational and career pathways. 11. Collaborate with faculty across multiple campuses in the advancement of human services within local communities.Essential

6. Knowledge of human service trends and workforce development challenges in Alaska and/or nationally.
7. Skills in assessment of academic programs.

Typical Experience:
1. Experience in working with diverse and underrepresented groups and populations in human services.
2. Experience in interdisciplinary instruction in human services.
3. Background in working with adult learners and/or students who are new to higher education.

Preferred Experience:
4. Prior experience as an adjunct instructor in human services or related areas and/or experience as an adjunct instructor or practicum instructor.
5. Experience in workforce development.


Required Education or Training:

Master’s degree in an area relevant to human services with at least three years of post-degree practice experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. or the professional doctorate.
2. Licensure in a profession relevant to human services.



Salary Information:

Assistant Professor, Bipartite or Tripartite, Full-time, 9 months per year (mid-August to mid-May) and full employee benefits package. Salary is based upon the level of academic appointment, applicable preparation, and experience.
