The Department of Teacher Education at Berry College invites applications for a tenure-track position in teacher education with expertise in mathematics, science, or STEM Education. The department seeks a faculty member who is committed to excellent undergraduate teaching and can develop and establish a productive line of scholarship, supervise undergraduate research, serve as an academic advisor, and contribute to the vitality of the campus and local community of schools through their service.
The ideal candidate will be able to establish collaborative partnerships with faculty and students from the STEM disciplines at Berry, including chemistry, biology, biochemistry, mathematics, physics, environmental science, computer science, and creative technologies. The STEM Teach program (www.berry.edu/stem) is funded by an NSF Noyce grant and offers ample opportunities for research and co-leadership with STEM colleagues. Berry also has strong partnerships with most P-12 schools in the region as well as a high-achieving K-8 lab school located on campus.
Berry College's Teacher Education program is a small, collegial department housed in the Charter School of Education and Human Sciences. Teacher Education faculty strive to be superior teachers and are advocates of personalized learning. Students' course work and field placements are complemented by diverse experiences that include numerous opportunities for travel and study abroad. Field placements and student teaching opportunities are augmented by two on-campus laboratory schools: a child development center (3-4 year olds) and an elementary and middle school (K-8); Berry College also partners with Rome City Schools and the South Rome Alliance to operate an early learning center in South Rome (3 year olds).
Teacher Education also supports two minors (Teaching English as a Foreign Language - TEFL) and Family Studies; teacher education offers an ESOL endorsement to students' existing Georgia teaching certificate.
Requirements:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Science, Math, or STEM Education by August 2023. Candidates who are currently ABD should earn their degree by the date of employment. Additionally, candidates should have 3 years of P-12 classroom teaching experience.
