Position Overview

Monitors, tracks, and reports on the manufacture of equipment projects; from the initial bid process, up to and, through the delivery of the equipment. Ensures equipment is in compliance with customer specifications, Work Orders, and company quality standards. Directs the efforts of the Quality Team to ensure company quality standards and objectives are met.


Position Summary


  • Reviews customer specifications and associated engineering work orders.


  • Coordinates and organizes liaison services between Plasser American Corporation and its customers during the manufacturing process.


  • Attends meetings within the company, and with customer, during: pre-bid, post-award, production, pre-delivery inspections, etc.


  • Monitors and reports on engineering, purchasing, production, testing, and inspection phases and in process inspection throughout the manufacturing process.


  • Attends applicable training, and trade shows, to maintain and develop relevant knowledge, skills, and customer relations as required.


  • Directs Quality Control/Assurance Inspectors in the performance of their assigned inspection and testing activities, to ensure company quality standards and objectives are met.


  • Conducts performance evaluations.


  • Coordinates subordinate training.


  • Coordinates equipment testing and reports on status.


  • Cross-train with Quality Manager to provide reporting metrics as necessary.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists in direct supervision of 6+ Quality Control/Assurance employees, and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance evaluations; employee rewards; addressing complaints, and resolving problems, correcting and approving employee time and payroll.


Required Skills


  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.


  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.


  • Capable of working in a team environment.


  • Ability to read, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.


  • Ability to read, and interpret, electrical schematic drawings, hydraulic drawings, and engineering blueprints.


  • Ability to apply critical thinking and solve practical problems in a variety of situations.


  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including MS Project (Gantt Charts).


  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


  • Requires periodic training within the railroad industry and manufacturing industry.


  • Knowledge, training in ISO standards, and other areas of quality control are preferred.


  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.


  • Sound mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Understanding of the metric system. Ability to compute angles, slope, degrees, using basic geometry and trigonometry.


  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.


  • Ability to think quickly and make informed decisions based on data and results of tests/inspections.


  • Team leader who associates and subordinates can rely upon for decisions to complete hard tasks.


Preferred Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering from four-year college, university (or equivalent); or a minimum of five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • To work on or around equipment on Railroad property; satisfactory completion of FRA, “On Track Safety” and CSX/NS “Roadway Worker Protection - Contractor Safety” training.
