Position Summary

The Paint Sales Manager is responsible for the success of their store’s paint department and maintaining outstanding customer service to create the best paint department experience for our customers. The primary responsibilities include assisting both residential and commercial customers with their painting projects and jobs, while going out and obtaining new business. They must have sound knowledge of paint brands and paint products, be able to mix and tint paint, all while maintaining a clean and orderly merchandise presentation and overall cleanliness of the paint department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the stores paint department including but not limited to the inventory and people of the department
  • Mentor sales associates in the process of selling and mixing paint
  • Sales efforts in supporting both retail and commercial customers.
  • Spend time outside the building obtaining new business.
  • Assist customers over the phone and in the store to help determine appropriate paint/tint recommendations based on customer projects and specifications.
  • Proficient in custom color matching and using computer color matching software.
  • Requires constant use of tinting and paint mixing equipment.
  • Offer color matching expertise and paint product selection advice.
  • Keep your area of responsibility neat, clean, stocked and priced properly.
  • Clean store equipment daily and when needed.
  • Assist with physical inventory.
  • Manage and assist in processing special orders.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials used in the painting industry, as well as hardware.
  • Knowledge in the preparation and application of paints to different types of surfaces and materials.
  • Knowledge in estimating time and material requirements for work projects.
  • Being able to service and determine the needs of our commercial customer base.
  • Handle customer complaints both in house and on the job site.
  • Handle customer inquiries from both consumer and commercial customers.
  • Assist in the training and development of peers.
  • Open and close registers
  • Responsible for counting money and making bank deposits while manager on duty
  • Protect company assets by following all loss prevention procedures; train staff on same
  • Maintain an open and positive relationship with store management team
  • Address all safety concerns immediately
  • Report all incidents and accidents immediately and complete online report form
  • Update store management team about the progress of the store and staff on a regular basis
  • Actively participate in daily huddle meetings
  • Ensure all receiving is completed in compliance with company procedures to maintain an accurate inventory
  • Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store management.

Job Functions:

  • Use the E.C.E.T. (Every Customer, Every Time) process with EVERY customer interaction.
  • Greet every customer you make eye contact with, anywhere in the store.
  • Answer customers’ questions and provide information on procedures and policies.
  • Be at your workstation on time and “customer ready” whenever you are on the stage/sales floor.
  • Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Recommend related items when appropriate and execute S.A.L.E.S. process.
  • Assist in the training and development of peers.
  • Uphold merchandising and store cleanliness standards.
  • Offer a carry-out if appropriate.
  • Know the proper way to answer the telephone.
  • Be alert for possible merchandise losses. Protect all company assets and report any missing or damaged merchandise to your supervisor.
  • Address all safety concerns immediately.
  • Advise store management of any pricing errors.
  • Perform other tasks as asked by store management

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old or older due to use of machinery
  • 1 year of paint store experience required
  • Outside sales experience, preferred
  • Must be able to distinguish between colors and types of paint
  • Experience in the operation of tinting and mixing paints
  • Must be able to lift 65 pounds to load customer orders
  • Experience with spray equipment, preferred
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must have reliable transportation
