The Division of Student Success, Equity and Diversity partners with students, faculty, librarians, staff and administrators across campus as we advance our institutional values and strategic priorities through the identification and implementation of equitable and inclusive practices and policies. The Division also leads the Racial Equity and Justice Institute, a national consortium committed to advancing racial equity in higher education through data-informed practices focused on institutional transformation
Position Summary:
The Assistant Vice President provides leadership within the division of Student Success, Equity and Diversity for the creation, implementation and assessment of campus-wide programming and other initiatives focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. The Assistant Vice President partners with the Vice President in collaborating with a range of campus members engaged in equity-oriented institutional change strategies. The AVP has supervisory responsibility for the Lewis and Gaines Center for Inclusion and Equity and the Pride Center. The successful finalist will also help to provide operational leadership of the Racial Equity and Justice Institute, a dynamic multi-institution higher education racial equity consortium. The Assistant Vice President is a senior leader in the division and should demonstrate proficiency in equity-oriented, results-oriented, collaborative institutional change efforts.
Supervision Received
The Assistant Vice President reports directly to the Vice President for Student Success, Equity and Diversity. The AVP’s work will be performed with considerable latitude within a context of support and collaboration.
Supervision Exercised
- The Director of the Lewis and Gaines Center for Inclusion and Equity focused on intercultural student support and success;
- the Director of the Pride Center focused on student support and success of LGBTQIA students;
- Administrative assistant
Essential Duties:
Campus-Wide
- Provides leadership in advancing diversity, inclusion equity-oriented competency building programming in support of Bridgewater State University’s institutional values and strategic priorities.
- Creates, recommends and implements evidence-based practices intended to enhance Bridgewater State University’s campus climate.
- Collaborates with the Department of Admissions in the identification and utilization of strategies intended to attract students from a diverse array of identities and backgrounds to Bridgewater State University.
- Works with the Vice President in partnering with departments across the institution as they identify and advance plans of action in support of the institutional and divisional strategic priorities focused on equity.
- Partner with the Vice President in securing external funds to support the equity work done at Bridgewater State University.
- Participates in major university events.
Divisional
- Recommend, develop and lead in the implementation of equity-minded procedures to support the operations of the division.
- Provide divisional planning, budgetary, communication and human resources related support to the vice president.
- Leads assessment and continual improvement efforts in the division.
- Responsible for the development, implementation, review, and revision of the division’s strategic plan.
- Represents the division on campus-wide committees forces focused on diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Represents the vice president as requested at campus and community events intended to advance the university’s diversity, inclusion and equity goals.
- Other duties as assigned by the vice president.
Racial Equity and Justice Institute
- Provides operational leadership to the Racial Equity and Justice Institute (REJI), a national higher education racial equity consortium.
- Meet with prospective members to discuss the REJI, share about its services, and aid interested campuses and affiliated higher education partners in determining if membership will advance their racial equity goals.
- Aid in orienting new campus/organizational teams to the REJI, as well as the tools and methodologies used in our work to advance racial equity.
- Provide consultation and support to member campuses and organizations to aid them in advancing their organizational goals for racial equity.
- Partner with the Vice President in securing external funds to support the REJI.

Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree providing knowledge and competencies consistent with diversity, equity and inclusion leadership.
- 8 years of progressive diversity, equity and inclusion experience, at least five of these in leadership positions.
- Demonstrated effectiveness designing, implementing and assessing programming in support of diversity, inclusion and equity.
- Demonstrated effectiveness leading data-informed, equity-minded initiatives.
- Demonstrated effectiveness partnering with other organizational members in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion-oriented goals.
- Ability to advance equity-minded transformation in a complex organization.
- Supervisory experience of professional staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience facilitating multi-institutional diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience securing external funding.
- Multi-lingual
- Doctorate in discipline offering knowledge and competencies consistent with diversity, equity and inclusion leadership.
