UVA’s Office of University Advancement seeks applications for a dynamic, collaborative, and seasoned professional to fill the role of Associate Director of Development.
The Associate Director will generate philanthropic support for top fundraising priorities for the University as part of the Honor the Future campaign. The Associate Director will report to the Senior Director of Advancement and will focus on fundraising efforts to support programs related to student health, wellness, and flourishing.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective major-gift level donors ($100K+) and move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the University. The Associate Director will be expected to create personalized strategies to identify , cultivate, solicit , and steward individuals within their portfolio. Other responsibilities will include:
Developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan to include special events , communications, annual campaigns, and major gift strategies.
Travelling nationally to identify , cultivate, and solicit prospects for pan-University initiatives.
Collaborating with other fundraisers in the department and across the University in overall relationship building of alumni, parents, and friends to ensure a coordinated approach for prospects and donors and to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation plans.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Three years of related experience.
A valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ten years professional experience in a health and wellness related industry.
Five years of previous client services or customer relations work.
Demonstrated commitment to principals and current work being done at the University related to student health, wellness, and student flourishing, including experience in counseling, yoga, mindfulness, mentoring, etc.
Track record of demonstrating a high degree of initiative, flexibility and will have the skills to shape and be shaped by an evolving fundraising initiative.
Exceptional communication skills, a high degree of personal integrity and the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to the small details .
Experience using data to evaluate and plan.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs. The successful candidate must be able to travel frequently domestically and be available for occasional evening and weekend work .

UVA Advancement offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in a shared office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
This position will remain open until filled. Review of Applicants will begin on April 26, 2023 . This is an Exempt level, benefited position. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $75,000 - $90,000 commensurate with education and experience. This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
