Position Description
The Literature and Languages Program in the School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for the Leah and Paul Lewis Chair of Holocaust Studies. The successful candidate’s research and teaching should be anchored in literature and the Holocaust, broadly conceived, and may engage with theoretical problems and questions such as those that surround trauma and memory, the politics of human rights, ethics, and aesthetic form and representation. Responsibilities include graduate and undergraduate courses as part of our BA, MA, and PhD programs in Literature, as well as courses related to the interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Studies.
Qualifications
A PhD in Literary Studies is required as well as a record of excellence in scholarship and teaching. We welcome applications from faculty currently holding the rank of associate or full professor. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching and service, which includes a strong commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. All candidates are expected to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. The appointment commences fall 2023.
The Literature and Languages Program
The Literature and Languages Program at The University of Texas at Dallas is composed of a diverse faculty of distinguished scholars and award-winning teachers who offer students the opportunity to explore a wide range of literary traditions, critical approaches, and theoretical debates. By working closely with The Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies, and other centers at UT Dallas, the Literature and Languages program brings together scholars dedicated to the study of literature in a transnational and interdisciplinary context.

The School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology (AHT) is a community of scholars, artists, and creative practitioners defined by their creativity, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding. Within the context of a Carnegie R1 doctoral research institution, AHT fosters the fluid movement between traditional disciplines and cutting-edge experimental investigation of emerging technologies. We prepare students with the skills to craft exceptional work, the ambition to take on new challenges, and the critical thinking to make a difference in a globally connected world.
