Associate Scientific Program Manager

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Associate Scientific Program Manager, in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, are to:

• Accelerate the implementation and optimization of advanced models and workflows, IT systems, and automation with all crop breeding pipeline globally;
• Partner with technical domain experts and regional teams to increase adoption of new tools and techniques to maximize breeding program design;
• Collaborate with Engineering and business owners to define program requirements, set priorities, and establish scope which includes defining the roadmap and long-term strategy of the partnering teams;
• Manage cross functional dependencies, risks, and changes effectively by optimizing scope, schedule, and resources accordingly;
• Develop and own communication plans to effectively and communicate proactively program status, issues, and risks to stakeholders;
• Lead deployment projects, analyzing results, and report research findings and recommendations to key stakeholders and leadership teams;
• Coordinate and communicate with planning teams and enablement teams across global enabling functions to execute large scale validation experiments;
• Evaluate the functionality of new capabilities across interconnected projects for suitability to the business and to ensure compatibility with the existing infrastructure;
• Ensure the success of breeding employees, pipelines, and operations by assisting with strategic planning, development, and implementation of high quality, limited scope analytics, software and automation projects that add value for the business;
• Build and maintain relationships around the world to support and enhance the global digital landscape;
• Demonstrate accountability for freedom to act / decision making and impact;
• Ability to operate independently on work assignments.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or Bachelor's degree;
• Prior experience demonstrating success developing comprehensive plans and delivering results through effective project leadership;
• Experience in statistics and experimental design;
• Track record of creatively defining key results and driving technical business solutions both independently and through cross functional project teams;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral) with proven ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, precise and actionable manner to diverse teams;
• Experience building consensus and leading teams through influence while working with strict deadlines in a highly demanding and agile environment;
• Ability to contingency plan and risk adjust to meet timelines and deliver results;
• Ability to travel independently up to 25% (domestic and international) with overnight stays and extended assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One or more years of experience in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Horticulture, Data Science, Genomics, Computational Biology or related life science field;
• Experience working with highly technical teams in computational statistics, computational mathematics, predictive analytics/machine learning, and/or process optimization and translating into workflows and insights;
• Two or more years of experience in genomics and/or quantitative genetics;
• Two or more years of experience conducting large scale field trials;
• Familiarity with Cloud computing platforms GitHub, AWS and/or similar platform;
• Experience with R, Perl and/or Python.

Position may include opportunity to work remotely up to 50%.
