As an Associate Scientist (Research Associate), you will use state-of-the-art technologies to perform high-quality research for key pharmaceutical clients across the industry. Your problem-solving skills are an integral piece in helping PPD accomplish our goal of helping bring life-changing therapies to market. You will join the Small Molecule team while working onsite at the client location to support various GMP/GLP campaigns.
Essential Functions:
- Discovering, developing, and demonstrating process chemistry at the laboratory and kilo-lab scale for timely delivery of early and mid-phase small molecule development candidates in the client's growing pipeline in accordance with cGMP, ICH and FDA regulations
- Controlling the bulk quality attributes of the API conducive to successful development and formulation
- Documentation of results and conclusions via batch records and milestone development reports
- The ability to learn quickly and ultimately to successfully interact cross functionally
- A desire to keep current with developments in the field as reported in peer-reviewed journals and other media

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or master's degree in Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or Organic Chemistry or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification. Preference to master’s degree.
- Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable 1+ year) or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
- Process Chemistry / Synthetic Organic Chemistry background desired
- Publication records desired
- In some cases, an
- equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of NMR, HPLC, GC, LC instrumentation
- A strong working knowledge of the latest developments in contemporary Process Chemistry including chemo- and/or bio-catalysis/asymmetric transformations, organometallic chemistry as well as experience in heterocyclic chemistry
- Ability to understand and independently apply GMPs and /or GLPs to everyday work with regard to documentation and instrument use
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel and Word to perform tasks
- Ability to independently optimize chemical reactions
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Time management and project management skills
- Problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team

The salary range estimated for this position is $19.00 hourly - $35.50 hourly. This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
