Athletic Equipment and Facilities Manager
Summary
The Athletic Equipment and Facilities Manager is responsible for the practice and game preparation of all NCAA sanctioned sports through oversight of the care of athletic facilities and outdoor practice and competition spaces. This individual undertakes the responsibility for the distribution and collection of athletic equipment and supplies and works with the Assistant Equipment and Facility Manager to meet the needs of all varsity teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversight of the operation of athletic facilities by coordinating the inspection, maintenance, game management staffing of each playing site. Responsible for the functionality and safety of each site to include eliminating hazards or fire exit concerns, Blocked doors, carts, etc.
- Advises and serves as work leader to the Assistant Equipment and Facility Manager, interns, and work study staff working as part of the equipment room and game day staff.
- Assist operational functions and staffing for the Shula Stadium including the Shula Memorabilia Room and the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
- Operate and supervise the Shula Stadium and the Tony DeCarlo Varsity center laundry system.
- Control of the Shula & DeCarlo equipment rooms including the distribution and collection of all equipment plus inspection of all ordered supplies.
- Work in conjunction with head coaches to identify and oversee equipment needs, purchase orders and storage of items.
- Work directly with Head Football Coach to prepare and monitor the football equipment budget.
- Attendance at all football games and practices (home and away) is required.
- Assist the Deputy Director of Athletics as a liaison to the grounds, maintenance and physical plant staff.
- Responsible for hiring and staffing work-study personnel and perform laundry duties for all the sports.
- Assist in the game setup and management of the winter indoor sports as assigned.
- Home game administration of winter indoor sports as assigned.
- Maintain computer records of athletic team inventories on an annual basis.
- Develop the ability to utilize the University Event Management System and to enter athletic team and departmental reservations in their respective spaces.
- Work with Athletic Department coaches and staff to coordinate practice and competition scheduling and departmental reservations and disseminate those schedules on a regular basis throughout the year.
- Develop the ability to communicate and demonstrate a commitment to the mission and strategic plan of the University along with the Athletic Department Mission and Goals.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director of Athletics and the Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, or in lieu of degree, 10+ years of relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of experience working in an athletic facility.
- Ability to relate effectively and positively with students, Athletic Department staff and members of the campus community.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the care and distribution of uniforms and athletic equipment and athletic facilities.
- Knowledge of inventory procedures and sound record keeping.
- Ability to supervise home contests and practices over weekends, vacation and holiday breaks.
- Ability to provide oversight of an assistant manager and work study student positions including selection of candidate and management of work schedule and assignments.
- Knowledge of purchasing, fitting and care of athletic equipment to include helmets, shoulder pads, etc.
- Ability to relate effectively and positively with students, Athletic Department Staff and members of the campus community.
- Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an equipment room setting and performing tasks such as uniform laundry, practice and game management in the sports of football, baseball and lacrosse.
Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions
- Normal working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, in the field of athletics, evening and weekend hours are required. Holiday hours are required at certain times dependent upon athletic schedules and post season selections into NCAA championships.
- Ability to work in either an indoor or outdoor setting in variable weather conditions during all seasons.
Physical Requirements
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Salary Range: $36,500 – $42,300, commensurate with qualifications.
