ABOUT OUR COMPANY
Philadelphia was awarded the 16th Major League Soccer franchise in February, 2008 and the team was officially announced as the Philadelphia Union in May, 2009. Owned and operated by Keystone Sports and Entertainment LLC (“KSE”), the group launched the Philadelphia Union's inaugural season in 2010 and opened what is now Subaru Park in June, 2010. ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Athletic Trainer assists the Athletic Trainer in managing the day-to-day sports medicine operations for the Philadelphia Union Academy. In this capacity, the Athletic Trainers provide injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for players’ medical problems. The Athletic Trainer supervises the care of the athletes. The Athletic Trainer shares responsibility for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries. The performance of duties is under the direction and supervision of the Performance Director and Academy Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs as Certified Athletic Trainer in managing the health care of players.
  • Health care includes, but is not limited to: first aid / emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing rehabilitation and prevention programs, as well as conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals.
  • Shares Athletic Development Responsibilities with Performance Department Staff.
  • Order, maintain and inventory supplies and clinical equipment.
  • Keep training room and clinic area safe, clean and organized.
  • Comply with all Academy medical policies and protocols.
  • Comply with OSHA Standards with regards to blood borne pathogens.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
  • Participate in community service/educational programs related to sports medicine.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Preferred Master’s degree in health related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a sports environment, preferably with soccer team sports.
  • Medical soccer experience preferred.
  • Ability to work as business needs require which may include long days, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if/when necessary.
  • Must possess U.S. work authorization not requiring sponsorship by the employer.

Required Licenses or Certifications
  • NATABOC (or CATA) Certified Athletic Trainer
  • In good standing with NATABOC and a member of the NATA (or CATA)
  • State License in the state in which the team calls home, if required by the state
  • Current professional CPR certification
  • Possess personal professional liability insurance

This position requires valid criminal background clearances in the state of PA:
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • PA State Police Criminal Record Check
  • FBI Criminal Background Check (via fingerprinting)
  • Annual Safe Sport Certification
