As an Automation Engineer in Engineering Services, you’ll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

As an Automation Engineer, a typical day might include the following:

  • Developing and maintaining a proficient level of knowledge of SEL equipment and solutions to electric power system protection and automation applications.
  • Completing work within agreed upon schedule and budget to a high level of quality.
  • Training and assisting customers with the installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices.
  • Working in a safe, healthful and environmentally sound manner, report accidents and unsafe conditions promptly, and perform ergonomic exercises to reduce likelihood of injuries.
  • Providing support for other SEL marketing, sales, application engineering, and development activities.
  • Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This job might be for you if:

  • You have a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with electrical power systems or industrial automation system practices
  • Good knowledge of system protection, integration, and automation applications
  • Working knowledge of electric power systems and protective relay applications
  • Ability to work independently, accepting ownership of assigned responsibilities
  • Willing to travel as needed
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Pay Range Data

We anticipate filling this position as a Project Engineer I $66,500 - $104,000 per year. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our salary ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
