BAS/DDC Technician

Conquest Solutions, LLC (CQS) is a leading application and engineering consulting firm in the Washington, D.C. metro area specializing in Building Automation Systems (BAS) and General Construction. We provide these services to federal, state, and local government agencies, hospital, schools, universities, private sector companies and commercial entities.


CQS has an exciting opportunity for a BAS/DDC Technician to join our team to support the implementation of BAS for multiple clients in the Washington, DC Metro Area.


Position Overview


The BAS/DDC Technician is responsible for interfacing with customers and contractors in a professional manner, performing start-up and check out of BAS components including but not limited to BAS front ends, DDC controllers, field devices, integration software etc. The BAS/DDC Technician shall communicate with the CQS Project Manager for daily assignments and shall be responsible for executing tasking associated with troubleshooting and repairing control systems and field devices such as backing up controller programs and BAS computers/servers, terminate field wiring, perform retro-commissioning, updating graphics etc. This is a customer facing supporting role under the direct supervision of an experienced CQS Project Manager.


Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform start-up and checkout of BAS front ends, field controllers and devices.
  • Perform testing, system diagnostics and commissioning of DDC systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair/ replace control system components such as field controllers and devices.
  • Perform preventative and proactive maintenance of BAS to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Manage project documentation such as daily reports, punch lists and as built drawings.
  • Work with and manage client expectations alongside the project manager.
  • Assist the sales department by performing onsite audits of existing BAS and recommending approaches to execution.
  • Responding to customer service calls (emergency, on-site, and on-line remotely).

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum education: High school diploma, HVAC Mechanical Vocational School Graduate or associate degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience servicing BAS automatic temperature control.
  • Niagara Tridium AX and/or N4 Certification and programming experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience troubleshooting Direct Digital Controls (DDC) systems and their electrical interfaces with mechanical, HVAC equipment and electrical systems.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of control theory and sequence programming in order to manage automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience using a Digital Multi-Meter (DMM) and controls calibration and testing tools.
  • Knowledge of IP-based networks and various building automation communication protocols and systems preferred. Such protocols include BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, Obix, etc.
  • Computer user experience (Word, Excel, Graphics software, etc.), including performing computer backups and software updates.
  • Proficient in working with others to plan, conduct, and report work efforts
  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to be attentive and responsive to client concerns and feedback.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task within time and technical constraints.
  • Ability to establish effective collaborative working relationships across different functional areas.
  • Must possess a high level of ownership, enthusiasm, and a collaborative, professional temperament.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, reference check and a drug screening.
