The Role You Play

As a Patient Benefits Advocate you will directly impact clients by helping them through the process of applying for Title 19 Medicaid benefits, or other SSI/SSDI and public entitlement programs. Your time will be about 50-75% handling paperwork, 15-40% client contact in the form of interviews and meetings, and 10% continuing trainings/other administrative duties.

  • The Day-to-Day
    • Assists eligible clients with accessing/maintaining public entitlement program access
    • Communicates and coordinates with internal and external agencies, including state and federal agents
    • Schedules meetings with clients to identify needs and barriers to services, then independently translates the information into a specific action/treatment plan
    • Works closely with the clients care team to facilitate treatment and client involvement
    • Quickly and accurately documents client interactions in their electronic medical record
  • Other Duties as Assigned
    • Actively trains to maintain current Medicaid/Medicare knowledge and keep abreast of changes
    • Works with homeless services in your service area
    • Collects and runs report data to measure SOAR outcomes

Who You Are

This position requires someone who is passionate about helping people. We also need an organized multi-tasker who can effectively juggle many projects at once. They will need the flexibility to handle disruptions in workflow, and the persistence to follow up with clients and resources both internal and external.

  • Required
    • Bachelors degree in a human services field or equivalent work experience
      • Acceptable experience may include Case Management, Billing, Client Services, or equivalent
    • Extensive knowledge of SSI/SSDI and other public entitlement programs
    • Strong oral and written communication using the English language
    • Valid drivers license/auto insurance
    • Basic computer skills
  • Preferred
    • Bilingual capabilities
    • Experience with clients who experience severe mental illness and/or chemical dependency
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
