Scope of Position
OSU Harding Hospital/East Hospital-Talbot Hall provides the most comprehensive behavioral healthcare services for adults in central Ohio. We offer more treatment options and a more experienced and diversified staff than any other psychiatric or behavioral healthcare provider in the area. All of our Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), Behavioral Health Immediate Care (BHIC), inpatient, outpatient, IOP, and partial hospitalization services include a comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis from a qualified clinician and implementation of an individualized treatment plan. We offer specialized evidence-based services for patients experiencing psychiatric emergency & crisis, need for behavioral health immediate care, mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis, trauma- and stress-related disorders, and sexual dysfunction. We offer specialty programs in women’s behavioral health, addictions, trauma, adolescent school-based, and neurocognitive disorders. Talbot Hall provides the most comprehensive addiction services for adults in central Ohio, offering specialized evidence-based services for patients experiencing a substance use disorder. This includes traumatic brain injury specific treatment and the latest Medicated Assisted Treatment for substance and alcohol use disorders. Talbot offers detox, Intensive Outpatient, partial hospitalization and many outpatient and continuing care groups. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient-focused care through the integrated skills of all treatment team members. The PES/BHIC Case Management Specialists serve as essential members of our BHIC/PES clinical team; they are licensed providers who functions within the interdisciplinary treatment team to provide time-limited case-management, linkage, brief intervention, and follow-up for patients seen in our BHIC and PES Service lines.
The OSU Behavioral Health Immediate Care program has been designed to bridge the gaps in the mental health continuum of care. OSU Behavioral Health Immediate Care (BHIC) offers short-term psychotherapy and psychiatric medication evaluation, management, and limited case-management services to OSU patients at risk for behavioral health decompensation.
Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), as a multi-disciplinary team of behavioral health professionals, facilitates inquiries about and access to Psychiatric Services on a 24-hour basis. As a Harding service embedded in the Medical Center Emergency Departments, PES provides comprehensive face-to-face, or via telemedicine system, mental health & substance use evaluations, crisis assessments, and short-term psychotherapy to adult patients presenting with psychiatric emergencies to the Medical Center Emergency Departments. When appropriate & possible, PES assists patients & families with linkage to inpatient, partial, and outpatient services for adults through Harding Hospital and/or other services in the community. PES also provides the intake and admitting function, insurance verification, precertification, and telephone consultation to referral sources regarding access to Harding services. PES works collaboratively with programs within Harding, the Emergency Department, other departments of the Medical Center, & other community behavioral health facilities.
Position Summary
The BHIC/PES Case Management Specialist 2 facilitates a caseload of behavioral health patients with the primary focus of efficient, effective, compassionate crisis intervention, stabilization, case management, and a safe transition from the ED to home, outpatient, partial hospitalization, or psychiatric inpatient settings. The Case Management Specialist 2 focuses on assisting OSU Behavioral Health patients return to stable functioning by increasing their immediate access to psychosocial assessments, interventions, and psychiatric medical interventions. The BHIC/PES Case Management Specialist 2 provides time-limited crisis intervention, treatment planning, psycho-education, brief interventions, and case management. The Case Management Specialist 2 provides linkage and access to necessary internal and external support services, including mental health services, transportation, financial benefits, medical and legal services, and community resources, when possible, such as emergency food, clothing, shelter, etc. to stabilize the patient in crisis, and to enhance long-term functioning. The BHIC/PES Case Management Specialist 2 collaboratively works with BHIC, PES, and Harding inpatient team members including psychiatrists, nurses, nurse-practitioners, social workers, and BHIC/PES Clinicians. The BHIC/PES Case Manager’s goals are to provide patient care and supportive services that are directed at achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient`s involvement in his/her own care plan, improving service levels, reducing the frequency of unnecessary psychiatric hospitalization or readmissions, and decreasing costs. The BHIC/PES Case Management Specialist 2 maintains an awareness of state and national mental health care trends and proactively responds with initiatives to enhance provision of care and ensure efficient resource utilization.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Master’s degree in Social Work or Professional Counseling, or related field and valid Ohio licensure required (LSW, LPC). Eligibility for future independent licensure or equivalent required. Independent licensure (LISW or LPCC) preferred. Pre or Post-Master’s training and experience in working with patients with mental illness and/or substance disorders is also required. Experience via an internship prior to completing Master’s level education may be considered. Experience with completing mental health & crisis assessments, case-management, and conducting evidenced based psychosocial interventions preferred. Must be willing to work BHIC hours (11AM-7PM) and a weekend day.
Ongoing: Maintain licensure(s), eventually obtain Independent licensure, Maintain credentials and CBL’s. Practice within the parameters of the Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board.
