Billing Specialist Job at First Children Services
First Children Services is looking for a Billing Specialist to join our team!
The Billing Specialist will be responsible for the billing and collection of our commercial and Medicaid insurance lines. Responsibilities will include: billing and claim submission, payment posting, accounts receivable management, statement processing, self-pay, and bad debt processing. This position will also be responsible for billing and collections with districts school districts and other agencies.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Manage day to day issues and problems, escalating in a timely manner as necessary
- Incorporate all Departmental and Administrative Policies and Procedures into daily activities
- Daily workflow organization
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of patient care, employee activities and office environment
- Work with lead and director improve collection outcomes and revenue realization as well as minimize revenue write offs and bad debt

Education and Experience:
- Minimum HS Diploma.
- Minimum 2 years experience with insurance verification in the healthcare field.
- Familiar with Central Reach and QuickBooks is a plus.
- Knowledge of payor medical policy and clinical guidelines.
- Maintains a working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 coding principles, changes, government regulations, updates and industry requirements related to third party billing protocol requirements, as well as, trends in the prospective payment system.
- Able to clearly document processes and facilitate process to external users.
- Strong knowledge of payor and clearinghouse claim edits and rules.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
- Must have strong work ethic, reliable, well-organized, and a self-starter.
- Attention to detail, strong project management skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Possess strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to maintain paper/electronic files.
- Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to interact with employees and providers in a professional manner.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Must be able to read, write and understand verbal and written English.
- Must display a professional attitude.
Physical Demand:
Job duties are performed in the typical office environment of the organization, which requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations. The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, frequently sit, and lift to 25 lbs.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, reach with arms & hands, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and manipulate (using keyboard, office equipment).
- Visual acuity to use keyboard, office equipment, and read printed material and regularly required to talk and hear.
