Our Camp Juniper Knoll resident camp is a place where energetic and passionate staff come together to provide a safe and positive learning environment for girls ages 6-17.
As camp’s Boating Instructor you will be critical to the success of the summer with the responsibility of supervising campers and staff in camp’s aquatic activities with an emphasis in canoeing and kayaking. In this role you will supervise and guide campers through on-site boating instruction, progressive learning experiences, and water-based program activities. As a staff member, you will:
- Collaborate with fellow camp staff to deliver a program designed to build girls of courage, confidence, and character
- Problem-solve to encourage camper growth and prioritize safety and wellbeing
- Exercise excellent leadership through role modelling positive behaviors, responsibility, initiative, and good sportsmanship
- Express your creativity developing innovative and fun ways to engage an audience of two to 200
- Make a positive difference in hundreds of lives and have fun at summer camp while you do it!
Work Commitment:
- The Camp Juniper Knoll summer season runs from June 6, 2023 through August 6, 2023, including staff training. Camp will not be in session July 2-4, 2023; this time is unpaid.
- Resident camp staff typically work from 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning until 10:00 p.m. Friday evening every week.
- Resident camp staff who commute typically work 40 hours per week, between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. each day. Actual shift times vary and will be determined in conversation with the Camp Director.
Camp Staff Benefits:
- This is a paid summer camp position.
- Pay range: $630-$660 per week for staff who live on-site OR $15-16 per hour for staff who commute; dependent on qualifications and experience.

Boating Instructor Qualifications:
- Loves to interact with children and has prior experience working with children of various ages
- Enjoys spending time outdoors and has prior experience working in an outdoor setting
- Current First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard certification (Preferred: Waterfront lifeguard certification) (Lifeguard certification training is available for candidates; however, position is dependent on passing the Red Cross lifeguarding course, including the swimming pre-test.)
- High school graduate or equivalent
- 18 years of age or older by June 18, 2023
- Proof of health physical clearing the candidate for work in a camp setting
- Willingness to live and work in an indoor and outdoor camp setting, which includes working irregular hours with limited or simple equipment, rustic facilities, wildlife and insects; limited technology while at camp, and daily exposure to sun, rain, and other weather conditions
Boating Instructor Responsibilities:
- Provide fun, positive, and active leadership to campers
- Help build a supportive environment where campers can grow, make new friends, and try new things
- Role model problem-solving, collaboration, and initiative to campers and other staff
- Supervise and lifeguard all aquatics activities, utilizing certifications, and emergency management as needed
- Provide quality water-based programming and lessons
- Act as instructor for canoeing and kayaking programs and other boating programs as needed
- Provide boating demonstrations as a tool to instruct boating lessons
- Maintain proper care of canoes, kayaks, and other boating equipment, and instruction of such care
- Oversee campers during group activities, meals, and transitions to and from scheduled events
- Maintain responsibility for aquatics facilities, shower house, and equipment in regard to condition, readiness, and cleanliness
- Assist with other camp programs when aquatics areas are closed
- Other duties as assigned
