- Transcribing educational materials into alternative formats for students who are blind or visually impaired.
- Using a computer, braille translation software, and braille embosser.
- Designing and creating maps and graphs using tactile graphics and tractile image makers.
- Using a variety of braille codes including Unified English Braille (UEB) and Nemeth Code for Mathematics and Science.
- Consulting with Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Orientation and Mobility Specialists regarding individual transcription needs of students.
- Delivering materials to schools, via interoffice mail or by car when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Completion of high school diploma required. Familiarity or prior experience with braille required. Successful completion of braille transcription coursework preferred.
- Knowledge of Unified English Braille (UEB)
- Knowledge of Nemeth Code for Mathematics and Science
- Knowledge of tactile graphics, techniques, equipment, and materials (e.g. Pictures in a Flash)
- Knowledge of the operation of a variety of braille embossers
- Knowledge of Duxbury Braille Translation software
- Ability to use braillewriter

- All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $106.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
- Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
