If you do not have your CDL and the required endorsements to drive a school bus, you must attend the Bus Driver Training Class. For more information, see instructions below, titled "BUS DRIVER TRAINING CLASS."

The duties include but are not limited to:

    Observes all traffic laws and commonly accepted rules of the road.
    Performs a daily safety check in accordance with state and local regulations at the beginning of daily run.
    Keeps buses clean and sanitary at all times and carries out all rules designed to accomplish same, including daily cleaning and periodic washing both inside and out on the basis of need.
    Governs themselves in accordance with the rules and regulations as provided in written form from the Department of School Transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a valid Alabama Driver's License.

Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Must have completed an approved Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment examination and drug test.

Must be insurable as determined by MCPSS personnel into private and business driving records within any three-year time frame.

Must have completed the mandatory bus driving class.

Must have a valid Alabama State Bus Driver's License.


PREFERRED:

High school graduates from regionally accredited schools or those who have GED equivalent.


BUS DRIVER TRAINING CLASS


NOTE:

GENERAL INFORMATION:

This class is mandatory for Substitute Bus Drivers and potential full-time Bus Drivers and Bus Aides.
The class size is limited and potential participants will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.


The duties (upon employment) include but are not limited to:

Observes all traffic laws and commonly accepted rules of the road.

Performs a daily safety check in accordance with state and local regulations at the beginning of daily run.

Keeps bus clean and sanitary at all times and carries out all rules designed to accomplish same, including daily cleaning and periodic washing both inside and out on the basis of need.

Governs himself/herself in accordance with the rules and regulations as provided in written form from the Department of School Transportation.


REQUIREMENTS:

Must be 21 years of age to apply.

**Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.**
