Summary: Under the direction of the Materials Manager the Buyer will assist in meeting the procurement needs of the company and in the development and continual improvement of supplier relationships. In addition, this person will be responsible for obtaining materials and services at competitive prices and in a timely fashion to meet production requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools.
- Manages obsolete items for return or inventory addition.
- Analyzes requisitions for completeness, clarity, lead-time required and commodity consolidation potential.
- Ensures delivery schedules are met. Works to improve supplier lead-times.
- Analyze supplier cost/lead time history; actively seek improvements; research and recommend alternate suppliers.
- Follow all safety, quality, lean and standard procedures and policies.
- Maintain effective communication with supervisor, internal customers, suppliers, TPS team members.
- Coordinates with engineering to inspect sample products.
- Expediting open orders to meet changing demands in Production.
- Perform general clerical duties as assigned.
- Complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements:Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or equivalent from four-year College desired; Associate Degree preferred; High School Graduate or GED required and two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as technical specifications and blueprints. Ability to write reports and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers, and other employees of the Company.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Convert units of measure, compute rate, ratio and percentages.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to accurately interpret specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.
Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced knowledge in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.) and technology driven communications.
