CAE Engineer
Duties and responsibilities:
- The Drive System Engineering team is seeking an experienced CAE engineer to lead gearbox lubrication CAE work, assisting in lubrication design and lubricant development.
- The main objective of this role is to predict lubrication performance and assist in designing a lubrication strategy to enhance oil life and gearbox durability.
- The role will primarily focus on but not be limited to lubrication simulation/modeling/testing of gears, bearings, differentials, and oil systems, among other components.
- This position requires conducting gearbox lubrication CAE and analytical modeling to optimize efficiency.
- Additionally, conducting detailed gearbox oiling simulations to determine oiling rates in various gearbox components such as gears, bearings, splines, and other components/features in the oil circuit.
- Determining the thermal profile of gearbox components, oil level dynamic changes under different driving conditions, oil splashing, sloshing, and oil flooding/starvation to ensure lubrication requirements are met under all circumstances.
- Finally, deciding between passive or active lubrication options, exploring other lubrication strategies, evaluating gear mesh lubrication and bearing oil flow simulation, and assessing air-lubricant interaction.
- This role also requires coordinating with prototype testing to validate CAE modeling and enhance simulation accuracy through data analysis and iterations.
Required Education and Experience
- Master's degree or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or related field
- Proficient in finite volume method CFD simulation, smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation, or other lubrication simulation approach for gearbox application
- Experienced in multiphase CFD model creation, simulation strategy selection, post-processing, and data analysis
- Familiar with Ansys, Altair, GT-Suite, PreonLab, or any lubrication-related simulation software
- Working knowledge of gearbox/motor design and thermal management
