South Shore Stars runs an exciting summer day camp at Hale Reservation in Westwood for kids age 7-12. The summer camp offers enrichment programs such as archery, swimming, boating, arts & crafts, ropes course, music, drama, STEM, martial arts, robotics and camping/nature skills. We have groups of about 8-12 kids, and campers are grouped by grade, so whatever age group you like working with, we have a group for you!
We offer free bus transportation from Randolph, Quincy and Weymouth to Hale Reservation each morning at 7:30am and afternoon at 4:00. If you have a 7D license, you can earn extra income for driving our vans or being extended day staff. Come have a fun and rewarding summer at Camp!

Job Description – Camp Group Leader:

Each Group Leader I is responsible for a group of children and in assisting in all aspects of the operation of the camp program, as well as overseeing the unit in the absence of their Unit Head.

  • * This is a seasonal program. The program *operates* from July *3, 2023* to August 2*5, 2023*.*

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop strong positive relationships with each child.
  • Supervise children throughout the day, ensuring their safety and enjoyment of camp.
  • Maintain behavioral limits and group order.
  • Participate in specialist activities, responding to specialist’s directions and requests.
  • Plan and carry out activities with their group.
  • Identify children needing special programming and work with Unit Head to develop and implement individual plans supporting each child to be successful.
  • Work with other staff to prepare and participate in special events.
  • Help to keep site organized and clean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Oversee their unit in the absence of their Unit Head, reporting to their Camp Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma
  • Two years’ experience working with children in a formal or informal setting
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • High energy, warm and nurturing personality
  • Good communication skills

Reports to: Unit Head

  • All South Shore Stars employees should be able to lift at least 40 lbs and work in a non-sedentary environment.
