The Cancer Center Nurse Manager provides oversight of staff, schedule, workflow, patient care, performance improvement, and issues regarding that unit. The manager assures an organized, multidisciplinary, financially responsible approach to the delivery of care and holds staff accountable for the unit and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols. The manager collaborates with physicians and other department leaders to assure the safe delivery of care.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree or enrollee within 1 year.
2. Current West Virginia licensure or temporary licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
3. AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire.
4. AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification within 90 days of hire.
5. AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification within 90 days of hire.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Four (4) years registered nursing experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) or enrolled in a BSN program.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Ten years’ nursing experience.
2. Five years’ supervisory experience.

1. Practices and leads the department in patient- and family-centered care to promote safety, quality, and positive patient/family experience.
2. Assumes responsibility, displays appropriate use of authority and accepts accountability in the delivery of patient care.
3. Produces the department schedule for appropriate staffing coverage in a fair manner.
4. Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management, as applicable.
5. In response to data indicating commonly occurring risks to patient health status, initiates actions to correct, reduce and/or prevent risk.
6. Leads Performance Improvement projects for the unit and reports as appropriate.
7. Negotiates the patient care tasks with family/patient within safe practice guidelines. Appropriately delegates patient care tasks to assigned personnel; providing follow-up for completion and patient response.
8. Supports a financially responsible, safe delivery of care.
9. Holds staff accountable for following policies, procedures, and protocols of the organization.
10. Guides delivery of care based on evidenced-based practice and standards of Joint Commission, CMS, and nursing practice.
11. Takes action to diffuse problematic staff and/or patient situations.
12. Assures that Biomed, Maintenance, and Information Technology reports (tickets) are entered when necessary.
13. Assists in covering direct patient care needs on an as needed basis in times of vacancies and/or busy times/high acuity patients which may involve working varied shifts.
14. Uses established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, & information.
15. Assumes responsibility to assist in the development of staff.
16. Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
17. Fosters the integration of staff and/or students into the health team. Facilitates incorporation of the organization’s mission, values, and vision.
18. Collaborates with other nursing department and ancillary department managers and the director of nursing.
19. Interacts professionally with various members of the health care team to assure that patient care needs are met.
20. Supports a non-punitive reporting environment and a reward system for reporting unsafe practices.
