Medical Assistant Job Responsibilities:
The role of a Medical Assistant is to support providers and patients by providing information, services, and assistance to the best of your ability.
Medical Assistant Job Duties:
· Opening and closing duties as posted throughout dermatology and plastic surgery clinics.
· Prepare liquid nitrogen containers for use at the beginning and middle of each work period.
· Verify patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit and capturing all MIPS measures in the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
· Prepares patients for examination by rooming the patient and recording their medical history.
· Monitor patient flow by directing providers to the next patient; overseeing the providers schedule to maintain “on-time” status; check reception area to ensure all patients are accounted for.
· Perform scribing tasks as directed by provider; prepare prescriptions indicated during the exam for provider’s signature at conclusion of exam.
· Confirm patients understanding of the provider’s instructions at completion of the exam.
· Assist with specific duties as ordered by provider including surgical procedures, biopsies, injections (IM/IL/SC), administer local anesthetic, treatment of warts with liquid nitrogen, verrusol etc.
· Venipuncture.
· Manage various schedules as directed by management e.g., light box, dermatology technician, pdt.
· Prepare specimens for transport to pathology lab; keep biopsy tickle files current; follow-up with final diagnosis and other data.
· Promote and instruct in the use of the patient web portal.
· Manage patient phone calls, emails and scheduling within your scope of practice and forward messages as needed to providers and appropriate departments.
· Oversee refills of patient medications; call patients with instructions from provider as directed.
· Initiate and complete required prior authorizations.
· Copy, scan and file all pertinent patient information.
· Keep supplies ready in exam rooms by inventorying and restocking daily.
· Organize instruments and/or supplies, clean, dry, sterilize/autoclave instruments.
· Become familiar with medical records, billing, and insurance requirements.
· Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential.
· Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
· Maintain responsibility for compliance with blood borne pathogen regulations; consistent with the clinic policy and procedures; maintenance of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all supplies and medications.
· Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; calling for repairs.
· Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
· Serve and protect the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements including all aspects of HIPAA regulations.
· Enhance practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
· Other duties and tasks may/will be assigned /removed as needed from multiple sources.
· Be knowledgeable on basic Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery procedures.
· Must have outstanding customer service, leadership, and organizational skills. Must always look presentable and maintain a high level of professionalism.
· Scrub schedules to ensure H &P, consents are in charts and surgery dates are on encounter forms and sticky notes in EMA.
· Complete cosmetic/plastic surgery competency checklist within 90 days of hire.
Medical Assistant Skills and Qualifications:

Education:
- Proof of graduation from an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program
- 1-2 years CMA experience (including recent graduates from accredited Medical Assisting program)
· Current healthcare provider BLS Certification
Licensing:
- Employee must be eligible for registration with the Washington State Department of Health.
