Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Clinical Trainer Job at Horizon Eye Care
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Ophthalmic Clinical Trainer will be responsible for developing and implementing an Ophthalmic Technician Training Program for all Horizon Eye Care technicians. This employee will be responsible for teaching technicians proper clinical techniques and chart documentation, as well as evaluating clinical competencies and identifying training opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Educate staff on basic eye anatomy, pharmacology, medical terminology.
- Teach staff how to properly document, track, code and bill using EHR system (NextGen).
- Teach staff how to accurately obtain and document past medical history, chief complaints, HPIs and vital signs.
- Teach staff how to complete and document a thorough patient work-up; to include: Pupil Assessment, Glare test, RAM, Mobility testing, Tonometry, Lensometry, Refractions, Keratometry, Slit lamp exam, OCTs and Visual Fields.
- Provide clinical instructions on completion of administrative duties, such as EHR messages, prescription refills, and reports.
- Work one-on-one with existing clinical staff members to develop additional clinical skills required to advance to the next level of certification.
- Create an education ladder for staff to obtain their COA, COT, and COMT.
- Evaluate clinical skill level through objective and subjective means.
- Evaluate clinical performance and determine an individual training program.
- Perform clinical assessment on all technicians to determine opportunities for improvement.
- Perform follow-up skill assessments on all new employees at 90 days, 6 months, and 1 year.
- Perform audits to ensure proper chart documentation and address any training opportunities.
- Develop and implement training program for new employees. Provide one-on-one instruction to new ophthalmic technicians.
- Maintain detailed training records for all clinical staff.
- Create a team philosophy that encourages teamwork and efficiency.
- Assist with educating and training employees enrolled in the Fast Track program.
- Work as a clinical technician ~20% of the time.
- Supports Clinical Operations Manager.
- Complete onboarding and clinical orientation with new technicians, including EHR overview.
- Collaborates with physicians to evaluate clinical performance and determine an individual training program.
- Completes scribe training and obtains OSC certification.
- Provides performance and training feedback to Clinical Operations Manager.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
